]]>Stress Relief and Management is as important now as its ever been.
Stress was called the killer of the 1990s and here we are in 2023, where things are worse! It simply doesn't make sense.
Stress damages your health, families, careers, relationships and more besides, however the great thing is we can do something about it.
We weren't born stressed, we have learned to be stressed and if we can learn stress responses, we can learn to do something different.
SALE ON
Prolonged negative stress can make you sick, bring disease and distress, and even lead to death.
We created the stress relief audio program 80 after many years of working with men, women, teens, and children who had experienced stress, worry, or pressure in various ways.
Stress management takes a little practice - do not think it will just go away! Many folk make the error of thinking they will or can 'deal with it' themselves. Stress management is healthy and beneficial, it just takes a little time and practice to do it right.
This program aims to assist you in managing stress, developing relaxation, and reducing distress and strain.
Many people living with IBS often find their thinking changes, and their hopes and expectations alter over time. From the early days of hope gradually changing to expecting the worst! It becomes more difficult to see possibilities for change - but they are there to be grasped.
When the negative mindset becomes normalized, it creates a sabotaging effect on any hopes of improvement in your IBS Recovery. Expecting the same thing day in and day out, the IBS symptoms slowly getting worse, you may have read about such things happening to other folks on bulletin boards and support groups.
But there are things you can change to help yourself, starting with understanding the expectation of IBS recovery which is a major requirement for getting well again.
Negative expectation gets in the way of IBS recovery. If IBS has been in your life for any length of time, it maybe the case that you won't have the emotional energy to get well again. By that I mean, you may not have the energy you need to take part in your recovery. And if that wasn't enough, if you believe things aren’t going to get any better, they surely won't!
But the good news is, you can make changes that will help you to build positive expectations, you can rebuild your emotional energy to help in your recovery, and you can build your belief system to reinforce them.
I have been helping IBS sufferers since 1991, and still do to this day. Read about my experience working with thousands of IBS sufferers over 32 years. And that of users of my IBS Audio Program 100 which is used widely around the world.
Many IBS sufferers will be able to identify with their disappointment with new medications, new therapy, new diets etc.
The hope you attach to your new approach to IBS recovery is promising, you've been here before.
Often the new medication and the new therapies and the diets start well, the expectation is high.
But then after a few weeks or months the same, familiar niggling little doubts kick in. Things aren’t going as well as hoped. But you persevere the best you can, until it becomes another thing that has failed!
The reason failure is so commonly frustrating is often because of the three reasons mentioned earlier.
Let’s take each one in turn:
Expectations
You either have negative expectations, positive expectations or no expectations depending on the subject matter.
Let’s take the situation where a person has had IBS for some time, let's say 6 months. However the longer they have had IBS symptoms, the more likely the following applies, but more deeply.
During that short time IBS symptoms may get worse, not only do the physical symptoms get worse but the emotional ones too, and over time the symptoms not only continue to get worse, but they become more frequent, they become more troublesome, why is that?
The IBS is the same, so something has changed to make the symptoms worse and more frequent.
The thing that has changed is your expectation. The expectation of having the symptoms, become the accepted normal way of thinking. You start to expect the pain to arrive, expect diarrhoea, you just expect to need the bathroom when you’re out. And you just expect whatever symptoms your type of IBS variant brings into your life.
Yes the expected pain arrives and gets worse. The expected diarrhoea, or constipation, the expected urgency, the sweats and other symptoms. The cramping and bloating along with other symptoms, all expected and sure enough, they arrive. Which in time creates a circle of negativity. The expectation deepens the symptoms, and the symptoms reinforce your negative expectations.
The ever-decreasing spiral has begun!
This is a good example of the mind-body connection, every thought you have creates a physical response. Your expectations trigger responses. So you might argue, that the mind and body are doing exactly the right things given the expectations you have. Of course, you don’t want the symptoms, who would? But the subconscious is hearing a different message and responds accordingly.
So you have to change the expectation. But you can’t do that because it's unlikely you have the emotional energy to feel better now. That ever-decreasing spiral of negative expectation drains emotional energy too. Leading to lower emotional energy. Which in turn leads to lower physical energy makes getting through the day more challenging, so there is less chance you have the energy to change your ingrained expectations.
Have you experienced times when you have had an easy day physically, and you still find you are so tired. All you just want to get to bed and rest? If so, that is an indication that your emotional energies are running low, so let’s understand emotional energy levels.
When you have something ongoing for any length of time. And IBS tends to have been ongoing in a person’s life for some considerable time before I meet them. Or they begin working with the IBS Audio Program 100. The symptoms and the emotional and physical energy used in managing IBS are draining. Life is difficult enough without having to deal with IBS, and yet you have to keep going. And you do.
But there is a price to pay!
All IBS symptoms, the physical and the emotional, drain your emotional resources. Life, in general, drains you, that’s why it’s important to get good sleep to help you recharge your inner energy.
I have met many people who find IBS wakes them up at night. When they aren’t doing anything except sleeping, or are they?
When we sleep our brain processes the day’s events and filters and stores memories and experiences. And what is a big part of your day – IBS!
So the nightly processing and internal filing and filtering that goes on when we are asleep. Most likely triggering responses to IBS, which in turn may wake you up! The more this goes on, the less you expect any type of IBS recovery!
More disturbed sleep means less energy being stored for the following day, making it another expected difficult day. The ever decreasing-spiral continues!
Imagine these inner energy resources being similar to a core energy, a battery pack, and lastly an emotional reserve.
Everyday life and the burden of IBS, drain your core emotional pot of energy. Your subconscious then recognizes that your energy levels are going down. So it transfers some backup energy to keep you going for the day.
Sooner or later, the symptoms get more severe and frequent, and you can’t rest as easily as you once could. Over a relatively short time, you might find that you are feeling drained again.
When this happens the subconscious recognizes your core pot of energy has gone. Your emotional battery pack has also been used. So all you have left is your emotional reserve.
From my experience with IBS sufferers using this emotional reserve is recognized by irritable irritable, with weepiness becoming more commonplace.
As a consequence of draining energy levels we become tired more quickly. We may not want to socialise, work or play or laugh as much. We might want to sleep more, but don’t get the benefit of the sleep we take. This leads to fatigue and exhaustion.
You may become more introverted. Not having the time or patience for those you love and care about, this can lead to relationship problems.
Confidence levels and self-esteem begins to drop. Memory and concentration levels are not as effective. Sleep patterns become further disturbed. IBS may affect your reproductive system. And interest in the physical side of relationships may be low or none existent.
If you go out you may find you want to come home sooner than you might normally expect. When people come to see you, you might want them to leave sooner. There may be times of intolerance, and weepiness along with other issues too.
Feelings of dread, restlessness and becoming impatient and all because the emotional reserve is low, battery pack and core energies are just ticking over.
All of the above is simply about being human, they are natural outcomes of draining emotion.
But it is important to understand that you can change this, you can change the way you think and feel, and the way you behave, once you know how to.
All that matters is the present, the moment in which we are living, right now, not the past or the future, just this moment.
As you get stronger and find new ways of thinking you can then use some of your growing inner energy to make positive changes to the way you think and feel. And seeing things in a new way, even if the picture hasn’t changed, you can learn to see it through different eyes.
The first step:
The first step, is to take a deep breath, and do something about it. For many of the reasons above it may not be easy in the begining, but this is an important decision in your life. You either decide to do something different, and work towards feeling better, or doing nothing! It is as simple as that.
If you have got this far in your reading, there is a good chance you will make the wise choice.
Once you have made that decision, the next thing to do, is to put a plug in that core pot of energy, to find a way to stop the energy levels dripping away, and by doing that you begin to store the energy once again and that in time flows back into the emotional battery pack, and then flows back into the emotional reserve.
This is the first steps in your journey to IBS recovery.
It also gives you the energy to use, in learning new ways to think and feel, to see things in perspective and most importantly to take part in your healing.
So the first two things which hold you back, the negative expectation and the draining of energy levels are important and need to change.
But to change them you have to understand your belief system, continued progress with the first two will be hampered if you don’t change your belief system.
Of course, this and the other two take a bit of time and effort, but it is time and effort well spent.
So you need to look at your belief system – here we are only talking about the IBS belief system.
So you have tried lots of things and many if not all, haven’t been beneficial in the longer term. That creates a belief system that you will never find anything to help you, you will continue to stagger from one potential solution to another without really believing you will find your answer, and when you do that you are simply going through the motions of helping yourself.
And the problem is, you may well be sabotaging your progress in everything you try because you don’t believe anything will help you. That needs to change.
When IBS has been in a person’s life for some time, it can be difficult to combat negative thinking.
The constant worry and frustration, the pain and the preparation for the day. The ongoing concern of being caught short, having a bowel accident in public.
Being too far away from a bathroom, or the embarrassment of your loud stomach grumbles repeatedly during a meeting or social event.
In addition to the stresses and anxieties of life and its demands all take a toll.
The world seems to be closing in, even deciding what clothes to wear, because you know your stomach will distend during the day.
Explaining to your family, friends or co-workers why you have been away from work, school. college the embarrassment of it, and then there is the intolerance of none sufferers, with remarks such as - "you have been to the bathroom 5 times already", or "I have IBS and I get on with it", there may be tuts, rolling eyes, heavy sighs. All these make a dent in confidence too. People can be cruel without intending to be so!
All these things or even just a few of them take energy, they dent belief systems; drain energy, and create a negative expectation toward IBS recovery.
For many IBS sufferers, eating patterns may have changed, and foods may be blander, maybe less nutritious adding to the ongoing issues of IBS, fasting during the day and having a binge at night, is not a solution, but you might feel it gets you through the day with a bit more confidence.
However you should avoid famine and binge eating.
The connection between mood and food is well recognised and it's importance for your health respected. Not to mention the impact on your digestive system!
All the above compound the emotional and physical aspects of IBS too.
But please do not give up!
I have seen amazing strength and determination in so many people over the years, once they begin to see and understand the problems of negative expectations, low energy levels and the power of belief, they begin to see how to change things.
And many of them do, getting stronger, controlling their thinking and feelings and ultimately the IBS symptoms reduce, become less severe, less frequent and that has to be good!
These three things are often left out of the IBS recovery dialogue, and I’m not sure why, maybe they are overlooked by health professionals or not deemed as important, but dear reader, my 30+ years of working with IBS sufferers tells me different.
I believe these three things need to be addressed because, without them, there is no energy to build a foundation for moving forward, or creating positive thinking and a positive belief system. And we know for sure, that the mind and body connection is real, so the sooner it is used positively the better.
Of course, I would like you to try my IBS Audio Program 100; it is a gently structured hypnotherapy program which has been helping people around the world since 1998. Or contact me to work with me on a one-to-one basis.
However, whatever potential solution you try next, take some time to think about your;
Expectations, Emotional Reserves, and your Belief System.
Positive changes such as these that you bring into your life, translate into positive physical responses, and positive thought patterns.
Aiding IBS recovery. The mind and body connection will begin working with you and for you, and help you with IBS symptoms reduction.

Note IBS Recovery in this article refers to improved management of IBS symptoms. At the time of writing, medical professionals do not view IBS as curable. However, given little is sure about the exact cause of IBS, and limited medical IBS treatments available to health professionals it is natural that they should be of that opinion. However how can they say there is a cure if they don't know what causes the condition in the first place. While there is much conjecture the jury is still out! However none of this detracts from the fact that for nearly 40 years hypnotherapy protocols have existed, and been proven time and again to significantly reduce IBS symptoms and frequency of presentation, for some becoming symptom free. Some hopeful signs are emerging
]]>These and other familiar statements are often excuses, reasons to hide behind to avoid stepping out of our comfort zone.
We want to change ourselves, our lives, and our way of living, and yet we are stopped, not by the false justifications mentioned above, but simply because we are afraid.
And so, it goes on and on, and on, until one day, you wake up and realise you have missed your chance, someone else has got there before you, and the only difference between them and you is that they didn’t hide in their comfort zone, they pushed aside their excuses, their fears and had the passion and the drive to achieve what they wanted to achieve.
Of course, it is easy to blame others or situations for not being just right for you, and if that makes it easier for you to carry, then go with it, but somewhere in the deepest part of your knowing, you are aware that you missed your chance, and you have live with it.
The other person, the one who got on with things, the one who eventually achieved their goal, and perhaps your dream and wishes too, is the one who took a leap of faith in themselves.
As an entrepreneur, I know from experience that the universe guides you through new ventures; yes, you make your plans. Of course, you hope you stick to them.
Still, unforeseen influences will push, guide, and cajole you into doing something unforeseen, and usually, in my experience, these unexpected influences typically make a good plan, a great one.
You don’t have to have all the answers before you start, for new skills and opportunities somehow find their way to you once you start moving.
Ideas come from deep within or from the universal field of consciousness; wherever they come from, they are real and make things happen.
But you must start your new plan, believe in yourself, and move towards your goal. You cannot steer a stationary car; you have to have some motion to steer yourself in the right direction.
Also, if things don’t go according to plan, don’t use it as an excuse to give up; persevere. My old school motto was perseverance, keep trying, and you will succeed.
The old cliché is true; you only fail when you stop trying. Whatever you want to do or be or change, you have the power within you to make it so.
Have the courage of your convictions, trust in yourself, and ignore the doubters and naysayers, for they often express their weaknesses and fears, not yours.
Continue on your dream/goal, and when you achieve it, maybe you will be the one that accomplished what the doubters and the naysayers were too timid to strive for.
Fear is temporary, but regret is forever. It is better to have tried and failed than not try at all, but as my old school motto has confirmed to me over the last 40 years, perseverance pays off.
When you hit a bump in the road, or something doesn't work the first time, keep trying, persevere. Look and see if the way is blocked for a reason, is there a better route to take? Sometimes, and I have found this happen to me many times, my plan needed adjusting and the adjustment, led to even greater success.
When you speak your dreams and wishes out into the world, the will encourage you to chase them!
Thought: The question was, what’s stopping you? What or who is it, and what can you do to change it?

]]>The question is this, “Who is the most important people in your life at the moment”?
Think about it, and when you have thought about it, did you perhaps include:
and maybe close friends or neighbour? For some, it might be the cat, dog or budgie!
Did you include yourself in the list?
Many of you who took the time to think about the question would have identified perhaps six to ten people (or pets) who you would have thought were the most important in your life before yourself.
And yet, why did you not include yourself if you stopped to think about it? Or if you did, why did you lower your importance? My experience tells me less than 4% of those I have asked this question included themselves, and less than half of 1% put themselves first.
Think of it this way. However many people you identified
when you answered this simple question, what you did is you identified that same number of people who would have a hole ripped out of their lives if you were no longer in their lives!
Therefore, it is essential to remember that you/me, as individuals are important, often crucial players in the lives of others. You may have people depending on you; you may have people to support, work to do, and goals to achieve, and if you don’t look after yourself, how can you look after others?
In addition, how can you continue financially, emotionally and physically supporting and providing for yourself, and them?
So, the simple answer is that you can’t.
So, looking after yourself, caring for yourself, is not about being selfish; for many, it is more like self-preservation!
It isn’t about being self-centered either; it is simply about caring for yourself, and in this way, you can meet your commitments to others and continue to be an essential part of their lives.
Learning how to cope with internal and external demands is more important than ever.
External demands are easily identified; open any newspaper, and we read about economic problems, negative equity, high prices, wage restraint, higher taxes, poorer services, war, famine and flood, heatwaves, droughts, higher crime rates, society’s pending downfall and much more besides.
Yet all this compounds the internal demands, worries, anxieties and fears that many experience. Work overload, relationship difficulties, disharmony in the workplace, perhaps being out of work or too ill to work demands are everywhere.
Nobody ever asks for anything tomorrow; these days, things seem to be needed now or yesterday.
If you don’t get enough rest and self-nurturing, you can make matters a whole lot worse, which is in nobody’s interest.
So what can you do? You can share your worries and concerns, discuss health issues, and you can learn to relax.
The reality is that many situations I mention may not be easy to change, but we can see them through different eyes!
All my clients and followers of my work, and home use health audio programs will have heard me say, ‘each thought creates a physical response’; so by improving your thoughts, sharing problems, and being open to new options of choice and considerations, you can see the situation in a new way, put things in perspective, bring the resources of your mind and body together to achieve your goals.
Thought: Remember the question I asked, and now consider your reply, and notice any differences. And ask yourself the same question every day!

]]>
I slowly and gradually slide my way into your life
Your slow recognition of me helps me to gain a firm hold on your thinking.
I want you to notice me, you want to ignore me,
hoping I will go away.
Once you never even knew my name,
now I am reduced to just three letters, but they can strike fear into you,
or simple resignation!
I have to get to know you, it takes me some time,
learning your ways of coping and thinking,
I make my self known in various and often multiple ways.
I bring pain and its cousins, cramping and aches,
sometimes they are dull at other times severe and debilitating.
Your belief of being powerless against me, reassures me,
and yet it does not have to be so.
Your fear of me, and your own frustrations and belief systems keep me with you.
I have put doubt in to your mind, and you believe me,
this belief is often reinforced by others,
they try to help you, but their words are sometimes hurtful, upsetting,
and sometimes, just stupid!
Some folk just don’t recognize the importance of me in your life, loved ones, co-workers even some medical folk who should know better, but some do know what to say, they do know me, and they frighten me!
I love your belief that I am here forever,
I consolidate my hold upon you, I may bring urgency,
or the total opposite, with slow dragging feelings,
or perhaps I bring the two together, it depends on me, and you!
My physical influence on you is well known,
I cramp you and bring to you bloating and gas.
For females, I often have to try harder during certain times of the month, and I often succeed.
I don’t want to be ignored, I crave attention.
You grow to hate me,
you tire of me,
you want me to leave, to just go, but I rarely do.
Whenever I feel changes in your thinking, I try to bring it back to me,
not for me a happy social or work life, I want your attention!
I want to be recognized and I will be,
I am often in the back of your mind,
I tire you out, I bring frustration so you waste energy on it, rather than fighting me.
Your love life and happiness are prime targets for me, why should I let you forget about me?
I am important in your life, you make me believe that, by thinking of me often.
I might wake you up at night, to remind you I am still present.
I might make your day difficult from the outset, or leave it until later in the day,
sometimes I might be quiet for a few days and then I will return, sometimes with a vengeance!
But you waste more of your precious energy trying to work out why, and I like that!
I may decide to make you uncomfortable in your back passage, often like a lightning strike within you,
maybe I will, maybe I won't.
I bring anxiety into your life,
I will erode your confidence and self-esteem,
I encourage you to waste your emotional energy at every chance I can.
When you realize you need the energy to change me,
you might decide not to waste it, and then my days are numbered.
I am happy to share your days, but I know you are not,
when you learn how to change your thinking, and how to respond to me,
I will be afraid of you. But not until then!
When you feel empowerment, you are keen to exercise it.
When you feel the first hint of change in me, you want to do more,
when you are focused on structured change, I can be reduced, even defeated.
But I will not make it easy, I do not want to leave,
you will be told that recovery and improvement, take time and effort.
But the time and effort will not be as much as you have put into me,
nor will it take as long!
I am IBS an unwanted companion, I am with you until you do something different.

]]>It was the first home-use IBS program brought to market, and it continues to help people around the world to this day.
So why have IBS sufferers embraced this IBS program?
As its author, I believe there are multiple factors, certainly the fact it took so long to develop comes through in its delivery, and the gentle encouraging session contents are delivered with care and understanding.
Because I do understand the impact IBS has on people’s lives and what they have to deal with, and how it affects family and social life, work or education time too.
The program has multiple sessions and is structured in such a way as to maximize outcomes.
It includes a free recording called the IBS companion; an informational recording developed for those who don't have IBS but want to understand more. Over the years, this one recording has reportedly saved marriages, jobs, careers and university places!
There is an accompanying booklet included, containing a progress log, suggested listening schedule, and other useful information.
And certainly, one thing that helps, is that it has always been affordable. There are no recurring monthly fees for this program.
Also, the program was developed because there was a need for it. It was as simple as that, I wanted to be part of the solution, and I believe the years working with IBS sufferers gave me an in-depth insight into the IBS condition which users to this day recognise.
It was intentionally developed specifically for the IBS condition, aimed at both the physical and emotional aspects of IBS. And yet, back in the day, I felt I was somewhat of a lone voice as far as the emotional aspects of IBS were concerned. Very few in the medical profession took the emotional aspects of the IBS condition seriously.
The number of times IBS sufferers came into my NHS GP-based practice, in tears and anger feeling they hadn't been listened to. As if they didn't have enough to cope with, without feeling they weren't being listened to or believed!
Thankfully that kind of medical consultation is becoming less frequent for the IBS population, and the importance of a good ‘bed-side-manner’ is being addressed.
Also, I took my time developing the program, but it wasn't easy. I was surrounded by folk telling me to 'get it out there'.
Others were telling me it couldn't and wouldn't work, if the doctors don't understand it, then I had 'no chance'.
But I did have a chance, a good one, and to cut a long story short, I succeeded in my aim. I brought the IBS Audio Program 100 to market, and now 25 years on, it is in three languages and used widely around the world.
I often tell my patients, to speak about their dreams and wishes, because once you have spoken about them, they tend to encourage you to chase them. And for me at least, this dream was achieved.
]]>One day in June 1991 started like any other, but by the end of the day, my life had changed, and I had promised to try and change the lives of my patients too!
It was a normal working day, a Wednesday with the summer sun shining through the window as I had breakfast with my children.
I was getting ready to go to my practice based in a busy medical centre in Cheshire, England hoping the summer sun would last until the weekend when I could be out enjoying it.
The English weather is well known to be fickle!
Driving to work was a normal journey, nothing to suggest the huge change in my life that was coming. My first couple of patients were received and the sessions went well.
My next client was a woman with IBS, it was our first meeting and obvious that she was in deep distress. She explained her symptoms and her frustrations.
All aspects of life were being affected. Her social life was ruined, and her doctors didn’t know what else to do for her.
She explained in detail the unpredictability of her symptoms and the pain. Nobody seemed to understand she said, several times. She was desperate for help.
I felt troubled because at that time IBS to me was just three little letters, I knew very little about. I told her I would investigate it and promised to keep in touch.
But at that time there was little I could do. I hated saying it, but I had to be honest.
The following two patients through my door were people I had seen previously, and they were doing well with the treatment plan we had agreed upon.
The next through my door was my second IBS woman of the day, the first meeting and it was almost a copy of the first IBS woman I had spoken to.
Pain, frustration, fear and anxiety. She felt additionally bad for letting people down and having to cancel events and shopping trips at the last minute.
Mealtimes were time-consuming, trying to decide what to eat. Would it go quickly through her?
Depending on where she was meant to be after food, dictated what she’d eat. I remember her weeping saying people have no patience or understanding and didn’t want to know.
She felt isolated. Travelling to see me had meant she had not eaten, just in case she had a bowel accident.
Her desperation was obvious. My reply was the same, I made a promise to investigate.
The third IBS sufferer entered the room, she was extremely tearful, her doctors had said there was nothing they could do, and she was told she had to live with it.
The thought of nothing but more of the same terrified her. She lifted her sweater, look she exclaimed, I look pregnant, but I'm not, her stomach was uncomfortably distended.
She explained she had to go home sometimes as her clothes were so uncomfortable because of the bloating.
She was highly stressed, and her confidence and self-esteem were at an all-time low. She was a high achiever, but then she explained how she then held back, she was falling further behind in her adult studies, and opportunities were passing her by.
I made her the same promise as I had the others. She didn’t believe me, she didn't say as much, but I could see it in her eyes, but she thanked me all the same.
Eventually, the last patient was seen, and the day was over.
But the three women with IBS were very much still in my mind. I had to be part of the solution to this I told myself.
There was a deep determination, a passion that I had to do something about it.
The old saying 'things come in threes' came to mind, three times I had to say I couldn't help, I didn't like it!
The internet was not readily available at that time, I had trips to the library and found early research papers. I spoke to doctors I worked with, they put me in touch with several friendly gastroenterologists who gave me time in their lunch break to answer my many questions.
And, as they say, to cut a long, story short, several years later, I had developed a structured program. My commitment was such that I mortgaged my family home to raise funds as no one wanted to help me.

Every pharmaceutical company I contacted ignored my request for sponsorship, except one that said no.
I contacted every over-the-counter medicine (OTC) supplier, they too ignored every sponsorship request.
I was told by many people that I was 'on to a loser', wasting my time and that if the medical profession said no then it was time to stop.
But those three women, and the sickening feeling I still felt when I had to tell them I couldn’t help, haunted me.
I contacted the three women I had seen, and they were delighted to hear from me. One was positively giddy!
I told each of them that if they were willing, I had developed a process that might help them. I gave them priority appointments and within a week all had had their initial consultation. When updating me on how things were their stories were even more horrifying and touching than the first time I had met them, each had, had their first hypnotherapy session with me.
A week later they had their second, and things were looking promising. And two weeks later their third session.
A few tweaks were suggested, which led to adding another session and restructuring the program.
I needed more IBS sufferers to work with. I put the word out through my health professionals’ network and in two weeks I had 15 people to work with, referred by their health professionals.
With their feedback, another session was added, and more testing and restructuring were done.
I was funding this, and funds were getting low. The chorus of folk telling me to ‘stop and think what I was doing’ grew louder and included some people I thought would have been more supportive.
I worked long hours with other patients to fund my work. Dark days were looming on the horizon.
I was pushing myself hard, and long late nights and early starts were taking their toll.
I also continued with the three I had started with, they were enjoying their recordings, and all were feeling much improved.
The sessions with the 15 patients were closely monitored, feedback was given after the sessions were completed.
Then for the following 3 years feedback was given annually. The result was a new proven, largely effective IBS protocol which I later called the IBS Audio Program 100.
It was now 1998, I joined a bulletin board, and the very forward-thinking owner allowed me to mention my program on his site.
Local doctors had heard of the success I had with IBS patients and my diary got full, months in advance. I found time for myself; I realized if I couldn’t look after myself how could I look after others
And now at the time of writing the IBS Audio Program 100 is used in over 40 countries. It has positively changed the lives of so many people I have lost count.
But it all started with those three women, whom I will add, all live much better lives now, and thanks to them, so do many thousands of others, whom neither they nor I will ever meet, but we made a difference. And that’s what it was all about.
I remember one of 'the band of three' as they came to call themselves, gave me the biggest hug, it took my breath away. Stepping back to look at me she said 'you came through for me, for all of us, and we all love you'.
She cheekily added, even my husband loves you for what you have done she laughed. It was the first time I had heard her laugh.
At last, I could release my promise into the air and be free of it.
I finally paid off my debts after many long years of extended hours in my practice. Many of those who had been calling me to give it up, have drifted out of my life, but I am blessed to have many more folk who are interested in supporting me.
I learned many things through the years of developing the IBS Audio Program 100.
One is that IBS sufferers, have a depth of strength they rarely recognize until they look back on their IBS journey.
Another thing is we all have to take responsibility for what we do, and what we don't do.
We need to learn to say yes to ourselves, because in difficult circumstances it isn't selfish to do so, it's often self-preservation.
And the third thing I learned, is that we cannot rush our healing, we are all different. Healing and positive change come when the time is right.
The best we can do is persevere and do what we can to help the process as many of the user comments below will testify.
In short, we have to be ready for the long haul, we have to stick with things.
In those early days, I didn't realize how long the haul would be for me when I met those three women on that summer day in 1991.
But I stuck with it, largely because of the promise I made to them and myself, but also because every IBS suffer, I met, deep down had hope, courage and inner strength, they just needed to find it again. And they did!

But when do you get time for yourself, what do you benefit from the time you allocate yourself?
These are quite big questions to answer because, for too many people, there is not enough time in the day for themselves.
But ask yourself – what happens to all the responsibilities you are meeting now, and people you may be supporting if something happens to you?
The simple answer is to look after yourself the best you can, but of course, life is not simple, and it’s easier said than done. And that is of course true.
However, is looking after yourself a little bit more, really more difficult than having to hand over your duties and responsibilities to someone else?
At the same time, do you take time out to recover from the consequences of not looking after yourself?
And what if there isn’t anyone close by to hand things over to, what then?
These are scary thoughts, but everything mentioned above is things I have seen, and about people I have worked with in the past who didn’t take time for themselves.
Their thinking was wrong in these 8 ways!
Their thinking was flawed. Many of them paid a heavy price in obtaining recovery, and the sad thing was that most of it could have been avoided with a bit of planning and forethought.
It’s easy to get caught up in life and forget about looking after ourselves. But we do so at our peril.
So, what can we do to help ourselves?
First is to plan some regular time for you and make it part of your daily routine. Tell those around you that you are taking time for yourself and keep to it. Indeed, we can’t make time, but we can reallocate it.
If you don’t think that’s possible think of this. If your favourite singer/actor was to call you and say, hi, I’m in town next week, do you want to meet up? The answer to your favourite singer/actor would be yes. it’s a great opportunity.
So, you find time, make time, allocate time in whatever way you frame it, but you will ringfence that time with your favourite actor or singer, so you get to have the time with them.
If you can ringfence time for yourself with your favourite actor /singer you can ring ringfence your time every day, even if for only half an hour.

]]>The word Stress has worked its way into our vocabulary over many years. In the 1990s Stress was called the killer of the 90s such was the impact on health and work absenteeism.
And yet little has changed since then, if anything Stress has got worse, not better. Now there is instant communication via the internet, mobile phones, texts and tweets. Nothing is ever asked for tomorrow or next week, everything is needed right now, or yesterday and it is so often the case that we get sucked into the mindset that we can't say no. But we can say no, and we can say yes to us, and to our loved ones, and simply be kinder to ourselves. And we should do it more and more often.
I am not saying we should be inflexible and say no at every opportunity we get; we need to strike the right balance.
I worked on a consultancy basis a day or two a week in a busy Occupational Health department. During this time, I saw people broken by stress, they put their jobs first and stress broke many of them. I recommended early retirement for some of them as they were clearly unable to return to their previous or any other employment.
And yet, the companies and organizations these people worked for kept going, they survived without my patients, these same people who put their job before their health, and sometimes their families were replaced by their employers, and for many of them, it was too late, the damage was done.
For others, it was a long haul back to health and for others, those who I got to speak to just in time, had a bad fright, realizing how close they had come to the edge of the slippery slope.
As you will have gathered by now, this blog is focusing on negative stress since that is what the word Stress means to most folk when the word is used.
One of the dangers of Stress is that it is so loosely mentioned in conversation, we have somehow lost the importance of what the word means in human, family and relationship terms and we do that is at our peril.

Stressed out, or under stress etc. are taken as a negative statement. It should also be recognized that some stress is good for us. Good stress motivates us and excites us, but more on that in another blog.
Stress is this common term we all know very well, and instantly recognize when spoken about, but what does it mean?
How would you explain Stress to someone who has never heard the word before? Think about it, it isn’t as easy as you might first think.
In my practice, and online, I see so many people with stress, which comes from work, lack of work, social/family/financial/peer pressure and many other areas too.
If we don’t learn to recognize Stress and deal with it, it can damage us, our families, our relationships, our careers and our education our entire quality of life is affected.
So, what is stress?
Simply stress is experienced when our internal resources, are outstripped by internal or external demands, regardless of whether those demands are real or perceived! And that’s it. Our internal energy levels are drained.
So what causes the drain of our internal energy?
Either some big sudden life event such as an accident, illness or disease.
Alternatively, and this is the most common, yet more difficult to notice, lots of tiny pressures and demands which in themselves we deal with but when they are many and constant, they drain us slowly.
So, a good example of sudden Stress might be this
Imagine a balloon blown up to its maximum, and it is tied off with a knot to prevent the air from escaping, and all the air inside represents our internal energy. That energy is vital to our mind, body, and emotional well-being.
Now if you are someone who has had a sudden major or potential life-changing event, these, for the benefit of our imaginary balloon is similar to someone coming along and popping your energy balloon with a big pin! The pin representing the significant event.
In a brief moment, the balloon has gone and so has your energy, you feel the effects immediately. But at least you can see and understand what has happened, and that goes someway to helping you understand why your emotional energies are drained to the point of almost no existence.
Some people have energy levels so low; they don't have the energy to get better, for them recovery is slower, as energy has to be slowly developed and replaced, but recovery is certainly possible, but it takes a little more time.
For many people, however, it is a much different story.
In this case, it may have been an accumulation of much smaller (yet just as important) things happening over many months or even years which has affected you. You may ask why you didn’t notice it happening, and the answer is that it happened so slowly and gradually that you didn’t have much chance to notice it.
Life got in the way of noticing.
You might even have been aware that things were happening, and you brushed them to one side saying to yourself it was nothing and kept on going on. But all those nothings add up, they matter, and the price for ignoring them will be paid sooner or later.
In this situation, imagine the same balloon representing your same emotional energy and the (events) pin, but this time imagine the balloon being stabbed just below the knot, in the slightly flabby bit, and you can stab that balloon multiple times and the balloon won’t go off with a bang, as it did in the first example.
Instead, it will gradually and steadily deflate until it’s too late and before you know it, the energy has gone, you feel drained and low, and have no idea how to get the energy back again.
The first thing is to recognize you have learned an important lesson.
You didn't listen to your body, and you ignored the subconscious whispering please slow down, the whispers became a shout, then a siren, and then they acted!
The niggles, the aches and pains, the brain fog, the irritation, the lack of humour, the lack of concentration, memory and recall to name a few, were the little clues, the warnings that emotional energy was draining away.
They stopped you because you were in danger of doing yourself permanent harm - on a brighter note, however, the mind and body worked together to stop you from doing that just as they should. However, recovery time can vary from person to person, but in all cases, the sooner the better!
Now you have to build your energy again, but it will take time, but the likelihood is that you will get back on track again if you do things in the right order. Recovery is a process.
Take time for yourself.
Rest when you feel you need to. No more 'just one last thing' type of thinking. Whatever it was you were intending to do, it can wait until tomorrow.
There is nothing worth the price of your physical and/or emotional health. No job, no relationship, nothing!
I have worked for more than 36 years helping people to recover from the effects of not listening to their inner voice. The majority made it back into mainstream life after facing their life lesson.
The bottom line is, Stress is an enemy to be aware of, it will drain you and if left unchallenged or ignored, it will stop you eventually one way or the other, maybe leading to burnout, so we need to look after ourselves before it gets to that stage.
A simple equation in life is, not only do we take responsibility for what we do, but we must also take responsibility for what we choose not to do. And we have no one to blame other than ourselves if we constantly ignore the warning signs.
Watch out for constant little signs, you might feel more tired than usual, and irritable, digestion might be troublesome, your sleep pattern might be poor, and your sex life might be not as you want it to be. If you are an IBS sufferer, stress can trigger symptoms.
Our health is precious do your best to protect yours. Do everything you can to avoid the balloon going bang, or draining away to flabby, and keep it full of energy, that way you will have the energy to meet life's challenges and beating them.
Stress is real, it can impact, damage or even wreck lives and thinking otherwise, is to do so at our own peril.

I'm often reminded of a story I heard many years ago told to me by an old guy who I used to talk to on the way home from work.
Back then, at 16-17 years old I would walk past the old man and over some time, the acknowledging head nods, and the occasional hello led to a friendship which gave me so much insight into human behaviour, along with a wealth of wisdom which he shared with me on those early evenings before I arrived home.
I found myself looking forward to sitting and talking to the old man, I often listened to him for hours at a time. I believe those hours, gave me years of learning, I was given wisdom, knowledge, understanding and a view of the world which if not changed my life, changed the direction I wanted to live it.
Monty, the old guy would warmly greet me, and I like to think mutual respect grew between us.
The story he told me was one of an old dog, who was laid by the fire in the cosy home in which he lived.
The dog was moaning, as if in pain or distress. The cat who lived in the same household sauntered over to the dog, and asked – "what are you moaning about dog"? continuing his pained groans the dog replied, "that he was too hot"!. The cat disbelieving his ears replied matter-of-factly, "then simply move"!. "Oh but I am so comfortable where I am said the dog, but I am getting too hot by this fire"!
"Then move", hissed the cat loudly, "move somewhere else and you will feel better"!
"Oh no" replied the dog, "I don’t want to move anywhere else". "Then that, is your choice replied" the cat, as he slinked away looking for a comfortable place to lay himself down.
"Anyway", barked the dog, "it isn't too bad, I'm not burning yet"! The cat shook his head, and without looking back left the room quietly to find his little haven.
This story came to mind as I was speaking to a potential client a few years ago. We had met about 18 months previously, and we'd had the initial consultation, just as we were doing again, discussing his problem and the way forward.
At the time he decided he was going to leave working with me for a future time, he had to discuss it with his wife before he decided. This I suspected was code that there was something either we had missed or something he had not told me about. This time, however, he was more open, the thought of changing things frightened him he said.
I see this often with people, they will ask me about my services or my IBS Audio Program 100 or any of my other health focused audio programs and they consider it, and they consider it some more, they nearly commit, but pull back, they return, look some more, almost reach out and take action but pull away at the last moment again, and return to their safe place.
The desire for change is not as strong as the desire to remain in their comfort zone, which ceased to be a comfort zone a long time ago in the true sense of the term - but they have yet to recognize it!
They imagine how life might feel after we have worked together or when they have listened to one of my health programs, they get brave, stoic and stubborn but each time they pull back just before the time to commit, the desire for change is not as strong as the desire to remain in their comfort zone, which ceased to be a comfort zone a long time ago in the true sense of the term.
It might not be a comfortable place but it is a familiar place. However in time, the pain, the problem, and the worry will get worse and more painful until eventually, they have to move, whether they like it or not, the comfort zone is no longer comfortable or familiar, and change is now forced upon them.
Like the dog in the story above, it wouldn’t move until it was burning then it had to move. They have to move when they are motivated to move - often through pain or discomfort, rather than the preferred desire for something better.
The motivation to change and do something different is often sabotaged by the reluctance to move out of their comfort zone, but the problem with that is they aren't learning or moving forward, in this case, the comfort turns to stagnation.
This behaviour is not unusual, it is just about being human.
Change is scary at times, but I often ask my clients, which is scarier, living a life of pain, worry or dread, or choosing to change and to learn something new, to learn to be in a better place and create a different comfort zone. I guess both are as scary as each other - but one has the possibility of new beginnings, with something better on the horizon - the other one doesn't.
My potential client acknowledged he didn’t like the idea of change, a change took effort and time, and it was an unknown. I reassured him, he was right of course.
We all feel that way at times, but I also reminded him that life is about changing and learning to be and do more. Getting the courage to change, when emotionally and physically you feel drained, is a big ask!
But it is much better to change willingly, with guidance and reassurance, than it is to have circumstances force you to change, then you have no option, you have to find the energy and the time to do something different, so why not do it of your own free will when usually there are more options of choice available?
The journey of change into a new familiar comfort zone is far easier when doing it voluntarily than having change forced on you.
My potential client decided he was determined to go ahead, he became my client and we started working together.
After a couple of sessions, he wept – nothing too unusual in my line of work. He said" he was already feeling better, he wasn’t weeping because of anything negative", he shared that he then realized how much pain and distress he had been in, and how much worry he put his family through, all because he was afraid and uncertain, and thinking he could resolve things himself.
He mentioned how many times he had nearly reached out, only to pull back. Only now, realizing that he could have taken action sooner. He could have been braver, more decisive. Why didn’t he just reach out?
I stopped him from beating himself up, it only wastes energy! The reality was, that he could see things more clearly because he was in a different time and space than he was before he decided to do something different.
He is now looking back to where he was. He now had the benefit of experience, knowledge and understanding that he didn’t have back then when he was in the thick of things.
He had his light-bulb moment at that point. He now knows that he is not only responsible for the things he does, but also for the things he doesn’t do.
Ultimately, we all live our lives the best we can, but sometimes our hesitancy gets in the way of living life better.
I imagine the dog will move once he begins to burn, but he should have thought a little about the advice of the cat because ultimately, if we don’t choose to move on in life, life has a way of making our move, and that is often a much more painful lesson.
So whether you are considering the IBS Audio Program 100, Our Anxiety, Stress, Insomnia, Osteoarthritis, Confidence & Self-Esteem Program or any of our other programs, remember, the sooner you act and do something different, the sooner you enter your new comfort-zone
The sooner we move, the less time we waste, and the fewer regrets we have when we look back. See our best selling programs here.

It goes without saying we are all different, but we have many similarities too! Take a few minutes to read the ‘IBS Journey’ below, where are you in the journey, and how you might cut your journey down!
You knew there was a problem, usually painful and you were hoping it would pass. You tried to ignore it and it didn’t go away, but if it did, it came back again, and usually a little worse than it was previously.
People didn’t understand or you didn’t tell them about the problem you were experiencing or the worrying thoughts that just kept going through your mind. And there were the background thoughts too, those that you tried to push back deep in your mind.
You might have done some basic research and hoped that you didn’t have everything you read! You may have got impatient with people who didn’t know what you were going through.
The embarrassment was just... embarrassing!
And it just kept being a problem, and in time - perhaps after a lot of time - you just knew you were going to have to do something about it, because you noticed that your moods were changing too, not only were you having to deal with the physical pain, discomfort or whatever else you were coping with; you were finding your thoughts were changing, and your confidence might be a little less than it was, and also your self-esteem perhaps was waning, your sleep pattern might be affected and lots of other things you noticed too, but weren’t sure if you were imagining it, or if you were just overtired.
After all, you have been coping for quite a while now. You had to go and get it checked, finally, reluctantly you listened to that little inner voice which you had been ignoring hoping it and the symptoms would go away.
Tense, worried, looking for excuses to cancel the appointment, and perhaps thinking at the same time, that you just had to get it sorted, and you decided there was no option really, you couldn’t bear to think about living like that for the rest of your life.
Get a pill or medicine and that will be it you tell yourself. The doctor will have heard it a thousand times before, but you were still anxious but were brave and strong, and just wanted to get it sorted.
And, you were right the doctor had heard your worries before, from the many like-minded sufferers before you.
Perhaps the symptoms vanished that day of the appointment, should you really go now? Is it starting to get better by itself? Perhaps just a bit more time is needed? But then you remind yourself that lots of time has passed since this started, perhaps it is even a haze as to when it did start, were you always like this?
Because you can’t seem to remember when it started exactly.
Or if you do remember exactly when it started, are you recalling it right? So many thoughts but at least the doctor has heard it all before, thank goodness!
Well not quite! It could be IBS you hear, it’s a common digestive problem which affects one in 5 of the population. Irritable Bowel Syndrome - perhaps not quite sure of all you were being told, but you are booked in for some tests to make sure there was nothing to worry about, just to be on the safe side you're told. Oh well, more worry, until you get the results.
Hospital visits and investigations later, with all the hassle and worry they bring, you are told all the tests come back clear, nothing to worry about, it’s nothing serious, and it was as we suspected IBS.
Yes you remember IBS, it's nothing to worry about, or so you were told, and if you asked you were told “you’re not going to die because of it, just take some exercise, these tablets and watch what you eat and all should be fine”.
If you had the presence of mind to ask further questions while you were there, well done, but many sufferers might have suppressed the urge to ask more, and simply want to get out of the door, thankful that you had been spared from the nightmare of IBS – brilliant, exercise, tablets and watch what you eat and all should be fine – those words chiming in your ears.
Had you asked a few more questions you might not have been so optimistic? However in time, you will have to find out that in reality, there is no medical cure for this condition, in fact, it often gets worse.
No magic pill – no exercise secrets – no quick food avoidance solutions. You will soon discover that the medics, the researchers, and the drug companies don’t even fully understand why IBS starts! Yes, you remember Irritable Bowel Syndrome, those words again, little did you know you would be hearing a lot more about them in the future, and understanding what they really mean.
“Take the medication and call me if there are any more problems” are optimistic and hope-filled words of your GP or GI Doc ringing in your ears as you eagerly depart from the doctor's office.
Hopes are high, a little more time and all will be well – the optimism for many is not very long-lived.
Back to the doctor again, perhaps several visits are now behind you, new medications, sympathy, knowing nods and acknowledgement that yes it isn’t easy living with IBS.
And what about your moods, your growing frustration, fear and dread?
What can the doctor do to help with the time from work you are losing due to the IBS (that more than familiar term now!), what can he/she do to help you to live more confidently and socially.
The world may well seem to be getting smaller. The change of diet hasn’t done much for you, the change of medications makes you feel fuzzy or not all quite here.
The exercise hasn’t done anything and worse of all perhaps those you love are finding it hard to understand what it is you are going through.
The kids can’t understand why you’re not as much fun, why days out are cancelled, and your partner is making other demands that you just can’t be bothered with.
The doctor is sympathetic and tries to be upbeat. And maybe you hear the answer to the question, what causes IBS? and then you hear they don’t know.
But let’s do some more tests, more medical prodding and poking and waiting and worrying, and confirmation, (again) that it is ONLY IBS. That word Only might be only to those who don’t have it, but to you, it’s starting to be a real problem.
You found it easier to tolerate in the early days because you thought there was a light at the end of the tunnel, it was something that would pass. But it isn’t, and now you expect it to be there, perhaps always there, and it isn't fair, it really isn't fair!
Well, you have to remember there is nothing really wrong with you says the doctor! No disease to worry about so that's a good thing.
Remember??
This hasn’t been said before, you would have remembered this. Nothing really wrong? So why is it so painful? what's making my life a misery, affecting my work, my family and social life you ask!
The pain and the symptoms and the lower mood are real enough.
It’s just what IBS is and does, perhaps is the reply.
‘But the good news is there is nothing sinister going on, so that’s something to be grateful for’. Sorry, it doesn’t feel that way!
Let me know if it gets worse – the upbeat, optimistic hopeful tones of the doctor are now strained, or simply have vanished. The reality is the doctor often feels helpless for his or her IBS patients. Are you going to become a ‘heart sink’ patient?
We have a sale on - right now - don't miss it! <<<<------ Look!
Several more visits to the doctor have passed. Now you may be greeted with a resigned look of understanding, and you realize that the medical arsenal for IBS is drying up. You have visited the doctor more this last 12 months than in the previous 12 years!
How many more Christmas and New Year celebrations are you going to miss or tolerate? How many memorial weekends, Labor day and independence day celebrations will be robbed from you? Its been 12 months, you're now in repeat mode, familiar territory, and you begin to look back on this journey with unease.
The moods and faltering confidence are now just accepted. The physical symptoms are being tolerated, you’re coping but other things are getting away from you.
Social life may now be less than it was, family are coming to terms with the fact you have an ongoing problem, they are finding it more difficult to understand, but they are trying but sometimes careless words are spoken and are hurtful to you.
Your concentration is not as good as it was; the IBS seems to be draining you physically and mentally. You do your best to try to remain positive, but it’s not easy.
The doctor might have suggested antidepressants – you don’t feel depressed – but the doctor didn’t have time to explain that often antidepressants help to calm the nerves in the stomach. You leave feeling you’re on the slippery emotional slope.
It has been a long five years. You have decided you are on your own. Over the last five years, you have been doing your own research, spent a fortune on all sorts of over the counter medicines, and taken the advice of your friends on other products and none were right for you.
The IBS is an unwelcome part of your life, your quality of life is now much less than it was, and yet you have got into new routines. Hopefully not lost your job, or change hours to make it easier for you.
The mornings are definitely the worst for many people, and yet you have heard from others it’s the afternoons and evening times that are difficult.
You are well aware of your change in your wardrobe, the elasticated waistbands help cope with the stomach distension. You have spent lots of time and energy trying to find the solution to this problem. You hear of alternative treatment methods but you decide they are not for you, and your search continues.
Perhaps there have been more tests but nothing different to report. The hope is well and truly dashed - it’s still ONLY IBS!
There are days better than others but the overall quality of your life is significantly lower than it was. You feel tired still, resigned to the fact that IBS is with you forever. But then there are other days when you feel a little stronger and more determined to carry on with the fight. It’s not easy, but no one has told you anything different.
You acknowledge the fight has to go on. You remain strong and determined but underneath the stoic veneer there is a growing sense of the emotional equivalent of treading water, you know a long term solution is needed, but what?
Lots of money has been spent searching for a solution, people around you acknowledge you have your ‘off days, and you are not happy very often.
Little do they know the pain and the problems continue! There may have been other tests done again just to be sure.
More ‘helpful’ advice from friends, doctors and acquaintances and you try them all out of desperation.
How can this be, in this day and age, how come there is still no medical answer to this? The doctors are frustrated as you are. They want to help but their arsenal or medication is as depleted as their once hopeful tones and assurances you are on your own.
Maybe you are just resigned to putting up with it, perhaps there is still some fight in you. There are days when you can cope better than others, but your quality of life is perhaps a shadow of how it was before the days of IBS. But you keep going, you see adverts for ‘amazing cures for IBS.
‘Cured in days’, new alternative treatments and you are tempted to try them all, but you have been disappointed many times before. Perhaps this is how it is meant to be, but you know deep down inside this isn't how it is meant to be, there has to be an answer somewhere.
All those years, all that expense, all that hope, all those disappointments! How time flies, perhaps you now think you’re too old to change, perhaps this is your lot and you just have to get on with it. IBS, that cruel shadow in your life which has affected you so deeply, for so long.
And how you have had to adjust your life, the days out you have missed, the work pattern changed or worse, the socializing circle is much smaller than it was, going out remains problematic, needing great planning by you and understanding by others.
Nothing you can say now that has not been said before, so you keep quiet, and put up with it. But your thoughts are with you, the hope that there may be just one thing you find that can help, perhaps tomorrow is that day?
You have heard it all, you have tried it all, you have spent a fortune, you have little confidence in the doctors, you’ve had other tests over the years but all come back as IBS, and you know that your life has been affected significantly with the IBS, and yet you can still acknowledge there are days when things are better, it hasn’t all been bad you tell yourself sometimes more convincingly than others!
There have been easier days and there have been difficult ones too, but you have survived and you can be pleased with that.
All those years, you have been looking and searching and pondering and trying the occasional new treatment or idea. You are still looking forward to that one day that you might just stumble across something that just might help, but there again you have heard it all before.

This week marks a special occasion, when the nation celebrates the 70 years on the throne of HM Queen Elizabeth II, a remarkable point in UK history.
The Queens Platinum Jubilee Celebrations takes place over the long weekend from the 2nd to the 5th of June.
The Queen actually reached 70 years on the throne on February 6, 2022, becoming the first British monarch to ever reach a Platinum Jubilee.
The landmark event of February 6th 2022 was over shadowed by the anniversary of her fathers death George VI,on the same date in 1953 and the Queen did not want to celebrate her Platinum Jubilee on the same day.
The Queen succeeded to the throne on the same day as the Kings death. She was in Kenya at the time and became the first Sovereign in over 200 years to accede while abroad.
The coronation of Elizabeth II took place on 2 June 1953 at Westminster Abbey in London, she was 25 years old.
Queen Elizabeth II, is the 40th monarch since William the Conqueror took the English throne in 1066. She was born on April 21, 1926.

You're afforded current methods of symptoms management, which may prove helpful; for many all too often the benefits reduce as time passes, and it isn't long before many sufferers realize, something more is needed.
having to embarrassingly explain why you were late or absent from work, college or school, or explain why you can't go on a long-planned trip, a special social meeting, shopping trip with your kids, or friends, or have a piece of aunt's special homemade pie.
The insensitivity of some family members or friends who may find 'bowel problems' funny and amusing'
Hearing these things every day
even though you are in relentless pain and suffering, emotionally and physically, you still have a positive determination and fighting spirit to beat this condition.
So you try things like:
herbal remedies, bio-drinks, power foods, diets, allergy tests, private trainers, acupuncture, homeopathy, reflexology, mindfulness - but your mind is full!
A long and expensive list of ... failures... the frustration, pain, urgency, diarrhoea, constipation, and associated symptoms are still there, but your expected improvement isn't.

I am here, there and everywhere,
From the earliest of times, I have influenced humankind.
I am in words and actions,
I am in dreams, touch and sounds.
My influence is wide and deep,
I can touch everyone,
No one is immune to me,
My presence is sometimes denied, yet I often win through.
I am an invisible bond,
I am often chased,
And I am infectious, I am free to everyone.
I cause pain, turmoil and despair,
I also give hope, encouragement and strength.
I have shaped history, causing wars and conflict,
And I have prevented them too.
Time and again I have brought opposites together.
I bring colour into lives, and the world,
I bring immeasurable happiness and the deepest grief.
To know these things is to know me,
When I am gone, lives are empty,
When I am embraced, life is complete.
I am love,
An encourager and motivator,
I am in a babies cry, a mothers hug,
I am in kind words, and deeds,
I am present in smiles, glances, and the briefest of touches.
Millions of poems have been written about me
Songs lament my passing, and also rejoice in me being found,
I am in, and am, for everyone.
Once found, life changes forever,
When lost, I leave a permanent scar,
And yet, I am a risk worth taking,
I am the nurturer of hope, happiness, well-being and contentment.
I am the strength in decisions, unselfish acts, and self-preservation.
To know me, to experience me, to live with me, is to be fulfilled.
Never take me for granted, however,
For I too need nurturing. I am strong but can be hurt and broken.
Work with me and I will be your life's companion,
I am precious, I am love, and we deserve each other.

it is also the thief of time and special moments, it robs us of the now - being in the moment. It also manages to take root in our thoughts if we let it.
Anxiety is no respecter of age, background, or race. Once in our lives it often rules every waking moment. However there is hope!
Change begins when you begin to push back the anxious thoughts. Words and thoughts have power. Change your words, especially your internal dialogue, and change happens.
Every thought creates a physical response. So change your thoughts and you change your response.
It sounds simple. It isn't. It has to be worked at, and it has to be structured, but change is possible. After all, it is only a thought you need to change, one step at a time.
Until you do something different the same things are going to happen.
You might be familiar with that feeling, when your head is telling you to be calm and yet your body and emotions are telling you something different.
When you want to be anywhere other than where you are in that moment when the anxiety ambushes you.

Sometimes anxiety seems to appear out of the blue, rapid and unforeseen, at other times feeling it, sensing it in the distance, advancing emotional feelings of dread which seem to be heading your way.
You try and avoid, maybe trying to change your thinking, maybe moving to another room, or starting a conversation. But somehow the dread of anxiety is still monitored, you haven't stopped observing it in your minds eye, your concentration isn't fully on your attempted method of avoidance.
And each time anxiety is felt, it deepens the groove of belief that nothing can change. But it can!
Nothing comes out of the blue - everything comes from somewhere
There are times of course when anxiety has to be listened too, it is after-all a mechanism to keep you safe. You should never ignore stress or anxiety when there is good cause to listen to your instincts and when situations demand vigilance.
When all is said and done, you have never been physically hurt by the anxiety or the panic it brings. But that is of little comfort.

Your body and mind react to the force within, seconds feel like minutes, minutes like hours, and when it eventually passes, you are left shaken, uncertain, it takes time to recover - but you will, and you do. And the pattern repeats itself, time and again, and the groove of negative expectation and feelings deepen still further.
Breaking that pattern is the answer to making change.
By taking time for yourself, learning new ways of thinking and feeling in a structured way is a great starting point to challenge existing thinking and to change them to something positive.
Our Anxiety Audio Program 120 (GAD) was developed to help in the process of change. It is something you will have to work with and it will take some time, but it isn't difficult.
Of course, it's much better to work towards developing relief and comfortable thoughts and feelings, than simply working towards maintaining how things are at present.
From award-winning clinical hypnotherapist Michael Mahoney, this home use audio program brings together many years of providing support and guidance to his clients and referred patients.

You try and avoid it the best you can, but so often you know it’s going to hit and when it does, you fight it, you know it’s going to pass, you know you have never been physically hurt by the panic but you know emotionally it will take its toll.
Your body and mind react to the force within, seconds feel like minutes, minutes like hours, and when it eventually passes, you are left shaken, uncertain, at times a shadow of your former self, it takes time to recover - but you will.
but the strong winds of rattled emotion still buffer you, emotional debris trying desperately to be brought together, to appear ‘normal’ whatever that means, to those around you.
Perhaps sometimes you are successful and no one notices, at other times it’s as if your body is reacting, screaming 'look at me', notice me, I’ve survived, yet again, but I will need time to rebuild, to compose myself again, to meet the challenges of the outside world, which has been taking my attention and my input before, during, and after the internal storm struck, pounded and moved away. Stress is impacting the lives of the young and old, in countries around the world.
Did you think things would be better when the lock-down was lifted? Many people did, and yet it isn’t happening for many.
If you are feeling stressed most days, and you recognise it, you are becomming aware that your life and health are out of balance. What is not so easy to be aware of is what you can do about it.
The first thing to do is to acknowledge that stress is a problem in your life.
The second thing is to stop telling folk you are 'fine' when they ask how you are feeling.
When you reply you are 'fine' or 'OK' and you don't feel it, it causes inner conflict, which leads to more stress.
What you are saying is not how you feel, so your subconscious begins to search inside your body, thoughts and feelings to find where you are ‘fine’ or ‘OK’.
When no ‘fine or OK’ feelings are found it causes inner conflict. Which in turn causes more internal demand?
The simple and easy reply is ‘I’m coping’.
That usually satisfies what is usually a cursory comment anyway from the enquirer and it satisfies the subconscious because it is a balanced (rather than false) reply.
the first is people are often more focused on their own issues and feelings to be too interested in any of your detail, and,
the second simple truth is you may well be the last person to recognise you are stressed!
the third simple truth is: how you manage your stress - depends on you. And coupled with all three is a simple equation of life and that is:
You take responsibility for what you choose to do, but also on the other side of the equation, you also take responsibility for what you choose not to do!
If you do something to help yourself, you can take credit for the outcomes. If you choose not to do something that needs to be done - you cannot complain at any outcomes the inaction causes.
Of course I don't expect that there are many readers who don't know these things already, but sometimes seeing them in writing gives us a gentle reminder of their existence.

Firstly, some stress is needed in life, to get us out of bed, and help us function during the day. The bark of the boss or the lost meeting or missing the bus or train, or getting caught up in traffic because you didn’t leave just that 15 minutes earlier, is never worth the extra 10 minutes in bed. It’s too stressful. So you avoid it. That is managing stress.
However, if you feel stressed most of the time, that has to be dealt with differently. But first, you have to be in the right place to deal with it! And that important point is one I will return to shortly.
Please do not see being stressed as a sign of weakness, noticing it, and doing something about it requires strength of character, focus and structure. Yes, some people wear their stress like a badge of honour, seemingly thinking that only if they are stressed are they doing their best, that thinking is flawed.
Some people don’t think stress even exists – the cemetery is full of them! Again flawed thinking!
When you feel stressed it is a sign that your emotional energy is being used.
When you feel stressed most of the time that is when your emotional energy is being drained.
Stress can be defined as when your physical and emotional energies are being outstripped by internal and/or external demands whether they are real or imagined.
An interesting statement, and true of course because the mind will respond and create physical changes in your body – electrical impulses and chemical releases for example whether you are facing a threat or a fear in reality or if you just think about the threat or fear in a safe environment, maybe the stress response will be less - but it still happens when you are in a safe environment thinking about it!
Way back in the 1990’s stress was called the killer of the 90’s such was the state of society at the time. And here we are 30+ years later and things are no better they are worse in many ways because most of us are online and contactable 24/7. Work and social pressures are difficult to avoid now, and yet we can help ourselves.
There are the usual suggestions of self-help. Take regular exercise, get more sleep, don’t skip mealtimes, break down tasks to manageable bits.
However, you might find these are easier said than done.
Why do we find it so difficult to apply change even though those changes will help us?
I mentioned early that you have to be in the right place to change! And that means giving yourself time to recharge those emotional energies that have been drained, especially if you have felt stressed for any length of time.
Have no doubt, that you are capable of feeling and being better, but you have to be in the right place. Imagine the moment when you are going to start feeling better is already on its way to you, imagine that moment of change as a tennis ball that has been hit for you to knock it back. If you were on the tennis course you would have to move and place yourself in a different place to hit the return shot back over the net.
See the program in detail here <<
Get Extra 10% Discount off THE DISCOUNT! use code: Stress-less at checkout
What would happen if you never moved to take the return shot - simple you would have missed it! Similarly, you have to make mental moves and shifts, to put yourself in the right place for the moment of change to touch you.
If you miss it, another will come your way, and another until one touches you, and then there will be another and another and that is called recovery!
Your recovery from stress should be structured and gradual. Diving in and rushing things doesn't work for the longer term, missing steps of change only cause you to sabotage your recovery, whereas structure and gentle learning and relearning builds a foundation of calmness, change and positivity.
If anything in this article has made sense, there is a good possibility our Stress Audio Program will make sense too.
And the great thing is there is no stress or demand on you to look at it or purchase it. There are no ticking clocks, telling you your special offer deal will expire in the next 10 minutes, or that you will be missing out on extras that are worth unrealistic amounts of money either.
We never try and pressure to make a sale; we want you to make an informed choice, and would rather you take some time to consider its benefits.

]]>When we have ongoing health conditions, we do our best to resolve the problem the best way we can, as quickly as we can, and as painlessly as possible. It's a natural thought process, isn't it? Well, yes, but it's not that simple.
When we are going through a healing process, we need more than the intention of getting better. We have to ensure we understand the recovery process.
When you have lived with an ongoing condition for some time for example with Stress or Anxiety, IBS or Insomnia etc. and are moving through the recovery process, there comes a time when you start to feel better, and you expect good feelings to be there again all the time getting better and stronger - right? Wrong!
Because at this stage, it is not uncommon for symptoms to return, out of the blue and you think, “Oh No! The Anxiety or Stress or IBS or Insomnia or whatever is coming back. and not only that the symptoms and feelings may feel worse than they were before you start your healing journey. Although this is not the reality.
Fear and disappointment grip you and the negative thoughts feelings and worries feel like they are pouring back in. What's going on?
Well you might be pleased to know that this process is a natural one when it happens, it happens to some people and not to others, either way, it doesn’t matter too much because we can understand the reasons why, when it does occur.
It is much more difficult to explain why it happens to some and not others, and to be honest the reasons are not fully understood (code for we don’t know!).
Anyway, as you progress through the therapeutic/healing journey whether it is with one-to-one sessions, or through listening to structured audio recordings, on occasions, symptoms will likely come and go and come again before finally leaving altogether.
I will explain the best way I can.
Imagine the Anxiety or IBS or Stress or Insomnia symptoms etc, that you have been experiencing, and which have been a part of your life for so long, as a resident army of negative thoughts.
This is what we need to change or wipe out.
Now imagine for example my one-to-one sessions, or any of my full audio recordings and their imagery, suggestions, considerations, options of choice and learnings as another army, an army of positive thoughts, that are going to displace the previously mentioned resident army of old negative thoughts.
The learned thought processes of Anxiety, IBS, Stress or whatever other issues you are working through have become a part of you. The subconscious has learned them, and that is the place where they reside within you.
Think of the subconscious as an overprotective parent and not very intelligent. Generally, it has learned a new thought process (the anxiety, stress, IBS etc), and the new thought process is, in its belief, helping you.
That belief is flawed and needs to be changed.
However, even though you try all sorts of things to get better, and to reduce the negative thoughts and feelings you will invariably fail - even if you know about them! But why?
There is resistance to change from the subconscious mind. Despite your conscious mind knowing change is needed to get well, resistance is met, the fact is you know once the symptoms are reduced, managed or even eliminated you will feel better, this too is met with resistance from the subconscious mind.
We have a sale on - right now - don't miss it! <<<<------ Look!
Side Note:
Remember you were not born anxious or stressed, they are learned responses, as are so many other debilitating conditions.
Those living with these types of feelings can often run negative thoughts in their mind relating to their anxiety/stress/IBS condition, sometimes even before they open their eyes in the morning. Thoughts such as
These thoughts add to the fear, add to the worry, and add to the belief that you are going to spend the rest of your life thinking and feeling this way.
That too is false, as long as you find a way that is right for you, and you work at taking the steps needed to start the process of healing and change.
Overthinking and worrying, also reinforce the existing army of negative thoughts in the subconscious.
In short, the subconscious does not want change, because the anxiety/stress/IBS feelings are familiar to it.
you have a history of surviving them, and you have and you will continue to do so!
But your quality of life will not improve until you introduce change to your thinking.
Once you change thoughts, these create a change in feelings, it is as simple as that. And that is what one-to-one therapeutic sessions do, and so too the structured audio recordings on our site.
So while these negative feelings are uncomfortable, they are not life-threatening, so why should the subconscious want to change. It believes it is keeping you safe!
The subconscious does not like change, and will resist it!! It will use excuse after excuse to do something else with your time rather than embrace change.
That thought process needs to be disrupted, and that is what my one-to-one sessions, and in my audio programs set out to do.
After a while of therapeutic intervention, the individual will often begin to feel better, notice a reduction of symptoms, and frequency of presentation, and feel more relaxed and less anxious in the case of the anxiety sufferer, the IBS sufferer will feel more control of their digestive system, or the person living with stress will feel calmer, more confident for example, or as happens sometimes, might not even be able to put their finger on the reason, but they do feel better in themselves generally.
This is a sign that the new thoughts, the new army of positive thoughts have begun to displace the old negative thoughts. Once this happens - the new army of positive thoughts and new positive feelings begin to relax a little, they are making progress. So they begin to let their guard down!
However! As any general in warfare knows, if they are being beaten, they do an organised retreat and regroup, ready for another attack. When the old thoughts re-group and attack again, the old feelings come back and often feel as if they are just as bad as before, however, this is not true!
The fact that the old army of negative thoughts is pushing back, is natural and normal. However, up to that point you are feeling better, the positive army is more relaxed and therefore don’t put as much energy into defending their newfound space and comfort. In short, they get overconfident!
When the negative army of thoughts push back again and bring with them the old unwanted feelings, thoughts and discomfort, this happens to some people, but not always, and if they do, it is often only temporary.
Alerted to the changes, the new positive thoughts fight back, these have been reinforced by the continuing support of the structured audio program listening and they once again push away the old army of negative thoughts, defeated once again the old thoughts are weakened further and pushed back again.
Remember the subconscious does not like change, and generally does not learn quickly (although there are times when it does). However it does learn new ways, and once again the positive army of thoughts are encamped, their position is strengthened.
At this time the subconscious begins to understand that it can still survive with the new positive thoughts, it begins to feel better too, it begins to understand that the new positive thoughts and feelings are not going to hurt it or you, and because of that, the subconscious, through gentle learning realises that it too is feeling better, the body is feeling better, and the outlook and attitude of mind are better also. This is when you are in recovery - the process of recovery is underway.
All these things come together to move you forward, reducing your symptoms and frequency of presentation, reinforcing positive thoughts, feelings and expectations.
The army of negative thoughts will fight back again, (though you might not feel them doing so) however, the strength of the old thoughts is much less, the times that the old thoughts try and come back become less frequent and much weaker and that continues until the old thoughts, feelings and negative expectations are a thing of the past.
The subconscious finally learns that the new information and understanding gained through learning new ways of thinking is the better one.
The establishment of new positive thoughts changes the way you feel, in body, mind, emotion and self.
You once again feel empowered by your new learning and understanding, resulting in a better quality of life, which is all we need.
Feeling better in your thoughts, feelings and emotions can bring empowerment, growth and further understanding, of the mind and body connection and the power and authority you have reclaimed.
It is my hope that this brief explanation will help in understanding the importance of knowing and understanding the internal process of learning to heal again.

]]>or are you already there? and if so do you have a recovery plan?
Burnout is not an indication of weakness or an inability to cope. On the contrary, it is often indicative of being dedicated to working professionally, having a strong work ethic, being caring and sensitive to the needs of others along with a reluctance to let others down.
High prevalence groups include health care professionals, business executives, people working to tight deadlines, the self-employed, teachers, generally anyone who is constantly busy, including mums and dads.
In short, no one is immune from burnout, if the right circumstances present themselves.
Burnout is a state of emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion caused by prolonged stress. When you also perceive that you have little control over the source of the stress, then its negative effects are amplified further.
Although burnout, often referred to as adrenal fatigue, is most often caused by difficulties at work, it can also be the result of difficulties in other areas of life, such as parenting, caring for an older relative, excessive exercise and romantic relationships.
People who have experienced burnout know all too well how long it takes to recover. Fatigue seems to linger forever, and you have a difficult time resuming your normal activities. The time to recover from burnout varies and depends on the severity of the burnout, the individual, and the level of support received from work and your loved ones.
Our Burnout program 75 is an aid to helping you in your recovery. The program is structured, and available on MP3 download or streamed version.

]]>By Michael Mahoney - Author of the IBS Audio Program 100
IBS is much more than an inconvenience, it is not a respecter of age, gender, background or social status - for some people, it strikes out of the blue, for others the symptoms are gradual, they creep up on you, until all the suspicions and denials that something is not right cannot be ignored any longer, you have to do something about it! Your life gets turned upside down!
Medically it is classed as a 'none serious' condition but that depends on where you sit!
(but there is hope, read on!)
The journey of IBS can be extremely long, drawn-out and frustrating, once 'in the system' medical appointments, travel costs and lost work time all add costs to you, and your employer and increase existing worry, frustration and increasing insecurity.
another visit and another doctor review, another, 'come back and see me in 6 weeks. After six weeks, another appointment and 'come back and see me in 12 weeks, eventually, you lose heart, you go on your own hunt for something, anything, that might ease the IBS symptoms.
You may have been lucky and found a medication that suited you, but it becomes less effective over time. The hunt is on for something else.
or any combination of these continue.
PLUS the emotional impact of continuing IBS, (No, you are not often told about these!) takes its toll by:
And while all this is going on, you have a job or home to keep, family and relationship responsibilities to meet. And after a while, they get more difficult to do by the day. The world and demands close in around you!
Is IBS still managing your life? Time to do something different? Click here!
You hope upon hope, that something sooner or later will help, optimism begins to fade, those three little letters, IBS now possibly affecting your every waking moment. Tiredness and frustration become more common, but you keep going.
Worrisome thoughts and concerns affect many IBS sufferers, regardless of their occupation!
In fact, IBS makes it almost certain that your confidence in and outside of work, college or school classroom is not as it should be!
In addition to the 'normal' things like shopping trips, days out may be cancelled the last thing due to the sudden onset of IBS symptoms.
"It is very frustrating to one minute feel fine, and the next minute is doubled over in excruciating pain, and rushing to the toilet. And it is embarrassing. Most of the time, you may just lie about what is wrong, because:
Sometimes an attack can happen out of absolutely nowhere. While enjoying yourself in activities, socializing, while relaxing, or playing, it doesn’t have to be a stressful situation to happen".
She went on to say:
“It is like having the intestinal flu every day of your life, and still having to be responsible for parenting, work, and functioning like other people do.” She says that most of her parenting was done in intense pain, and also thru the bathroom door".
Of course, symptoms vary, in frequency and severity because we are all individuals and we all have our own history and life story.
Many IBS sufferers will be able to relate because they have told me how their life is affected by IBS and after working with IBS patients since 1991 I have a good grounding in how life is for them.
I have heard many such stories over the years. The medical profession is frustrated too as they don't have the answers or solutions they want to give.
Sadly some medical professionals actively discourage the use of hypnotherapy for IBS management and symptom reduction, even when they and their patients have tried everything offered, without any progress.
rePerhaps they are not aware that hypnosis has a proven track record of nearly 40 years in medical trials, with professional papers and journals recording and reporting these findings. Happily times are changing!
IBS sufferers are living lives made so much more difficult by IBS. Not only does IBS affect the individual it affects their loved ones too.
But there is hope, new drugs are being released, and some find help with dietary changes too. Only the individual can decide what is right in the long term for them. Finding something to help physically and emotionally can be difficult.
What I have learned by working with IBS sufferers since 1991 and as author of the IBS Audio Program 100, which has been helping IBS sufferers since 1998, is this;
until the IBS sufferer makes changes to their thoughts and expectations, little if any long-term change will happen.
The IBS Audio Program 100 recognizes the emotional impact IBS has on your life, way back in 1998 that was new! Now medical professionals talk about the importance of the mind/body connection / the brain/gut axis in IBS psychological treatment and rightly so.
When I work with an IBS client, or they use the IBS Audio Program 100 one thing they will, and must do, is recognize the importance of emotional energy.
I will explain.
A person who comes to see me or uses the IBS program may have had IBS for years, sometimes a much shorter time, but on average IBS symptoms will have been presenting for 6 years before I am visited.
They have been dealing with IBS on a daily basis, for all those years. And despite the figures showing that up to one in five of the population may have IBS at some stage in their lives, socially IBS is treated lightly, it is literally the butt of jokes, but it is certainly no joke.
Like my client I mentioned earlier, who felt she raised her kids through the bathroom door, unless you are living with IBS, or someone with IBS you will not understand its impact on life.
However, when you are living with IBS, all your emotional energy is demanded from you so you can carry out your daily duties and routines, and each day you need to put more energy into your emotional reserves than you take out, but this rarely happens, so over time the emotional energy drains away, quality sleep helps, but this is often a rarity in this day and age of constant and immediate demands which are made upon you.
Each day, these demands are there, but IBS sufferers not only have these life demands, but IBS demands too, as mentioned in the bullet points of symptoms above.
And because these demands take energy, the IBS sufferer gets to a point where you have no energy left to get well!
Think about it - you have no energy to get well!
Literally coping day by day, sometimes hour by hour, in addition to all the previously mentioned symptoms, there is a serious risk of burnout, and other serious emotional conditions.
That is why it is so important to stop the draining away of energy, to put a metaphorical plug in the bucket of emotional energy and save some, even if only a little, every day towards getting well.
]]>I recognize I am often the 'last resort' for most of my clients, and the IBS Audio Program 100 is the same, but after everything else has been tried, it is my turn, and I see this as a complement.
Sale On!
I would of course be happier if I was contacted sooner, or if the IBS Audio Program was used sooner, but all things at the right time.
- Whether I am working with a client or they are using the IBS Audio Program 100, both will learn to structure their recovery, starting with understanding the importance of their emotional energy.
- Once the importance of emotional energy is understood, progress is made, with a structured approach to listening and a specific tried and trusted IBS protocol to work with, emotional energy is now used productively.
And the more emotional energy you have:
- the better you feel
- IBS is controlled
- symptoms become less
- sometimes disappearing altogether
- confidence increases
- self-esteem goes up
- negative expectation goes down
- negative thoughts go down, and much more besides.
The better you feel, the more positively you can use your emotional energy, which makes life easier for you, and those you love.

The question is,
“Who is the most important person in your life at the moment”?
Think about it, and when you have is your reply: wife, husband, girlfriend, boyfriend, children, parents, sons, daughters, nieces, nephews, and perhaps close friends, for some it might be the cat, dog or budgie.
But I wonder - did you include yourself?
If you took the time to think about the question you might have identified perhaps six to ten people (or pets) who you have thought about before yourself. And yet if you stop to think about it, why did you not include yourself?
Or if you did, why were you lower down the order of importance?
Think of it this way: if you identified six people to ten people when you answered this simple question, what you have really identified are six to ten people, who would have a hole ripped out of their lives if YOU were not in their lives.
Therefore it is important to remember you are important!
Many of us have people depending on us; you have people to support, work to do, goals to achieve, and if you don’t look after yourself how can you look after others, how can you continue supporting and providing for them, financially, emotionally and physically, if you are laid low?
The simple answer is you can’t!
Thinking about yourself, and making sure you care for yourself is vitally important. But you might say - it's selfish to put yourself first - but the answer to that is: it is not about being selfish - see it more like self-preservation!
It is simply about caring for yourself and in doing so you are more able to meet your commitments to others, and continue to be an important part of their lives and live your life to the best of your ability.
These days, it is more vital than ever that you - me - all of us learn how to cope with internal and external demands.
All demands take emotional energy from you, even if they are physical demands, they still take emotional energy away from you.
External demands are quite easily identified; open any newspaper or news site and we read about high prices, job cuts, benefit cuts, shortages, poorer services, society’s downfalls, war and much more.
Yet these external demands serve to compound any and all internal demands, the worries, and the anxieties, stress and fears which individuals personally experience.
These in turn impact pre-existing conditions such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome making symptoms more severe and more frequent. Lead to poor sleep and insomnia.
Work overload, relationship difficulties, disharmony in the workplace, perhaps being out of work or being too ill to work or even burnout
In today's society, nobody ever asks for anything tomorrow, these days things always seem to be needed right now, or yesterday!
If we don’t get enough rest and self-nurturing we can make matters a whole lot worse, and that's in nobody’s interest.
So what can you do?
The reality is many of the situations mentioned may not be easy to change, but we can see them through different eyes!
You might be already aware that each thought creates a physical response, and by improving your thoughts, sharing problems, being open to new options of choice and considerations you can see situations in a new way, and put things in perspective, bringing the resources of your mind and body together to achieve your goals. Our home use health programs can help with many conditions.
Remember the question asked earlier, and now consider your reply, and notice the difference!
Our website www.healthyaudiohypnosis.com has many home use health recordings to help with a wide range of conditions.
It is the home of the highly acclaimed IBS Audio program 100, we also have full, structured programs for GAD Anxiety, Stress, Insomnia, Burnout, Osteoarthritis, Confidence and self-esteem and much more.

you will certainly know the impact it can have on your life. Symptoms range from mild to severe, and can include, Diarrhea, Constipation, Pain, Bloating, Gas, Nausea, Anxiety and much more.
If you don't have IBS yourself, the probability of you knowing someone who does is high. Estimates vary some research quoting 10-15% of the American population may have IBS symptoms at some time in their lives.
In the UK estimates overall are 17% of the population (11% in men / 23% in women) Many other countries have similar figures!
But behind the figures lives, families dreams and wishes are being affected!
IBS can destroy relationships, careers, friendships, education and social life.
It is no respecter of Age, Gender, or background. Symptoms vary from person to person, the frequency and severity of symptoms can vary too!
But there is GOOD NEWS
THE GOOD NEWS!
In 1998 The IBS Audio Program 100 was made available in England and quickly caught the eye of IBS sufferers on internet bulletin boards, and from there, the rest as they say is history!
The IBS Audio Program 100 was the result of 8 years of privately funded research, development and patient piloting.
It was the first home use IBS Program available and remains a trusted and popular treatment option today.
We believe one of the reasons is, that it was developed specifically for the physical and emotional symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
We didn't copy anyone's research or ideas to make our program, we took our time, we got to know IBS, inside out, we were among the first to recognise the importance of the emotional aspects of IBS on patients lives and well-being.
That was pretty revolutionary back in the day! This aspect of IBS is still not recognised by some health professionals even today!
We also recognised the importance of structure, and made sure the program was structured and easy to listen to.
Since its early days back in 1998, the IBS Audio Program 100 has earned the respect of users around the world and of many in the medical community and other health professions too. It has now been used by sufferers in over 40 countries.
(We have years customer testimonials for you to look at too, we didn't ask for them, be we are pleased to receive them!)
The IBS Audio Program 100 English version is available on MP3 Format, Structured Streaming, and Immediate Streaming formats.

It is 10 years today that I had the honour of attending the Queens Garden party at Buckingham Palace, in recognition of my research and development of several ‘Innovative Health Solutions’ which included the IBS Audio Program 100, a structured home use program for the common digestive disorder irritable bowel syndrome, also recognised was the Anxiety Audio program 120 (GAD), and the Emotional Recovery after breast cancer program.
At the time I had a wonderfully helpful and supportive consultant from UK Trade and Investment who helped me to develop my recordings business to which I am hugely grateful.
Attending the Garden Party was exciting for me, I also had the added excitement of knowing my work, as a Clinical Hypnotherapist was being recognised. So the day was doubly thrilling!
The day was warm and bright, Cathryn who is now my wife, attended with me. We had a great time, and 10 years on it still holds a special place in my heart in my list of achievements and recognition's.
While IBS does not cause death, it does cause pain and misery along with many emotional and physical symptoms for many sufferers, often resulting a significant lowering of quality of life.
IBS causes incalculable pain and misery to the sufferer and their family, and costs the NHS and insurance companies £millions each year in repeat GP appointments, treatment prescribing plus secondary care appointments and tests and other direct and indirect costs.
In addition IBS is a huge cost to employers too, with increased absenteeism, lowered productivity and other direct and indirect costs impacting profits.
The IBS program took nearly 8 years from concept to market entry in 1998, and it is still going strong, used in 40+ countries, in three languages and available on MP3 downland format and Streamed versions.
I have to say, the Palace visit did provide a tonic for me, to keep going. The early days of program development were often met with ridicule, and disbelief.
But my high school motto of ‘perseverance’ kept coming to mind. Eventually, several forward thinking GP’s and several Gastroenterologists learned of my work, and my programs, they got picked up on the internet, and as they say, that was the beginning of great things.
Since then, I have developed programs to aid with symptoms for
Burnout
Stress
Osteoarthritis
Confidence
and, Insomnia
I am always mindful that success only comes before work in the dictionary, and it is something I mention to those I work with, but my work, and programs are always structured, and with structure comes learning, confidence and the inner environment for change and with it, better health and quality of life!

How difficult does life become when we add into that mix, a health issue which becomes persistent, irritating or just down right annoying?
It’s no fun having to sail against the winds of life all the time, and yet so often we can’t find the time to do something about those niggling, annoying matters that drain us of our emotional energy, life, it seems is too busy to stop and check what you need, and can do, to make life easier.
In short we become to caught up, to busy in life, to make life easier for ourselves.
However life has an amazing way of catching our attention, if we dare to ignore it’s gentle calling to us, that something is a miss!
Ultimately,
sooner or later life will stop you!
The gentle callings of concern, gradually escalate until they reach siren pitch!
It is at that point that you will stop and take notice. It isn’t a pleasant thought that’s for sure, life changes can be dramatic for you, and for others around you. Work / College /School absenteeism may increase, health care costs rise, fun times become less, you are less present in the moment, constantly tired, aching, lack of humour, and so the list goes on!
If life hasn't stopped you in your tracks, it will have slowed you down significantly! And then you will have lots of time to reflect on what isn’t right or comfortable, your priorities will change as you look for solutions and the path to recovery, which by this time is often more difficult than it had to be.
Let’s re-wind a little, let’s go back to around the time you started to notice things were getting a little more difficult.
This is the time to pay attention to what your body and mind are telling you.
Do you still not have time to do anything about it?
The old saying ‘a stitch in time saves nine, rings true.(basically don't put off doing something that needs to be done as it will take more work and effort later if left)
To further the point, ‘ a stitch in time saves nine’ is an anagram for: This is meant as incentive!
Your mind and body are giving you the heads-up, the increasing symptoms are an incentive to do something, while you still have the option of choice. Don’t ignore it.

Yes I am writing this in April (19th to be exact) and yes January is fading into history, but I have the feeling that 2021 is just starting. Here in the UK the casualties of the pandemic are reducing in numbers, although still devastating to those affected.
The Covid jabs seem to be doing their job, following lock-down rules and generally being sensible has led us to where we are now with shops and schools opening up, pubs and cafes, and other none essential businesses trading again are all good early signs that something near the old normal is approaching, and (at the time of writing at least) the sun is shining, so it feels like we are just starting to live 2021 - in April!
Thank goodness 2020 is behind us, I think it is fair to say, few people got through 2020 unscathed. The pandemic touched us all, to greater or lesser degrees, it was a year none of us would want to go through again.
Some are already calling it the lost year, but I am not so sure about that.
The direct impact on society was obvious, the indirect impact not so much so. People have been 'bubbled', holed-up, isolated for a long time.
And many of us have got used to it, which is a serious problem for many individuals coming out into society again, going to work again, going for a walk in town, and mingling with others after months and months of being told to stay apart, so resuming normal life, is not as easy as it sounds or hoped to be. Readjustment takes time, and it's important that both individuals and employers recognise it because if they don't the situation will only get worse - and there is a serious danger that the price paid will be high both individually and financially.
Stress and Anxiety levels are higher for countless numbers of people, For some groups of people the lock-down proved beneficial. For many with IBS or Irritable Bowel Syndrome for example. Their worries about travel, meetings, socialising, traffic jams, communicating to work etc. helped reduce stress and anxiety, with regard to their IBS at least. They say there is always a silver lining if you look for it!
However lock-down is over, and a new normal is beginning to take shape. It will take time for many people to adjust to new routines and environments.
There are many people who don't particularly relish a return to demands of the job,or the travelling and general hassle of the old routines. There are many people who have found that taking things more quietly, gently, and being out in nature suits them fine. It is important for our society as a whole that a happy medium is found.
Those who feel this way are simply responding to circumstances and change in their own way, its called being human. Equally, those who are more easily adapting to the changes, are, you guessed it, being human.
We adapt and change at different rates depending on our personal background, personal history, present personal situation, life skills and experiences and many other reasons, to many to go into in this short blog but suffice to say we respond to our internal and external environments at different speeds, and thats Okay.
None of us have lived through a time like this in our lifetimes, it is new learning for us all, and a time to exercise understanding and patience in our daily lives.
I said earlier that I want sure that I would describe 2020 as a lost year, I think that will depend on what we did with our new found time. I made the most of the new time by reading and learning, researching and preparing to bring several new programs to market. I manged to get out in the garden more, I learned more about nature and photography.
And I know many other people made use of their new found time, there is nothing that can change the impact that 2020 on our lives, but we can look forward, slowly, maybe hesitantly at first, but eventually the new normal will become the normal.
Before I finish one last note for those who got this far.
