Individual Mentoring Sessions

Providing services to new hypnotherapy professionals entering practice, as well as those who are looking for a change in practice direction.

You know how it feels. You have invested time and money in your training, and you get your certificate of achievement. You worked hard, your dreams race ahead of you, the things you are going to do, the people you are going to help, the money you are going to make, the benefits to you and your family when your practice is established. It feels good. Until it doesn't!

The training is over, and the classroom is now receding into memory. You make plans to keep in touch, excited to be released into the world as a qualified hypnotherapist, looking forward to meeting again and exchanging stories of clients you have helped.

But then, the chatter and excitement fade; suddenly, you are on your own. It's now down to you to put it all into play.  This, dear reader, is where the learning really begins.

I know, I was there 40 years ago.

Cut loose to do the good in the world I had always dreamed of. But how?

For me, it was trial and error, and I made some significant, costly errors that took me time to recover from. I had jumped in, left my job to do my training, and there was no way back into it if things failed. And for the first year, it looked like I would.

However, I persevered - my high school motto was perseverance. It was drummed into us at school and at home. Persevere.

The first thing I did was to question myself. What do I want to do? What areas do I want to work in? Can or should I specialise, if so, what in? That was just the beginning, but one step at a time was all I could do.

Looking back, the mistakes and the money I wasted helped me focus. I would, of course, have been delighted if I had got it right first time every time, but that is not how life is. When my head stopped spinning with all the worries of potential failure, I sat and reflected. Up to know it was a dream, but this was now reality!

I learned how to specialise and diversify - I know it sounds like a contradiction of terms, but it isn't. Back in the day, there were no support groups for me, no experience I could call upon to help me. Building my practice was down to me. It was a case of sink or swim.

I wanted someone with experience to challenge my thinking, offer advice, or at least provide options and considerations. However, no one was available to help.

I took some time to think things through. How could I be sure I would take the right path, make the right decisions, and once I'd made my choices, how did I know they were right for me?

My instinct was to run around doing something, anything, to feel I was busy and therefore in control. I wanted to share my skills with the world.

But, and it was a big but, if I got it wrong, I knew my life wouldn't be the same. I would always feel I should have done more, tried harder, found help, and many other thoughts to beat myself up with.

So instead, I took a breath and decided to get whatever speaking engagements I could. Do whatever it takes to get my name out and let people know who I am and what I can do. And I was prepared to work hard for it.

My patience, perseverance and planning paid off. The clients started as a trickle. My clients were, by and large, successful and began spreading the word.

From there, I never looked back, busy practice, successful products sold worldwide, consultancy engagements and much more.

And now I want to help you the best I can. I want to share my experience and help you avoid pitfalls.   Many training organisations don't follow through on how to apply your learning. It was the same in my day when I first started in practice, and it is often mentioned nowadays.

I won't show you how to make millions on social media because I don't think it's possible, certainly not in the therapeutic environment where we work.

So how can I help? Mainly, I can help you find focus, offer hints and tips, and draw on my 40 years of practice experience to minimise traps, trips, and frustration, and give you direction to get your practice in focus and generate income.  Read on.

With 40 years of practice experience and entrepreneurial flair, I have a lot to offer. In addition to my in-practice work, I have experience in providing occupational health services and outplacement services. I worked full-time in my medical centre-based practice for almost 25 years, collaborating with referring GPs, hospital consultants, and other health professionals, both within the NHS and privately.

My experience also extends to working with corporate organisations, local government employers, and their employees. Aditionally I have a proven track record of developing digital health products used worldwide.

Whether you are:

  • new to practice and want an experienced private platform to bounce your ideas around,
  • You want a shortcut to practice success, or
  • You are a seasoned professional looking for a confidential outlet to discuss your work or personal pressures and demands. Consider contacting me.

You don't have to reinvent the wheel!

I get it! You want to be out there doing and building your practice. However, a few hours of thinking and planning can save weeks of doing!

I offer sessions of 1, 2, 4, and 6.5 hours.

The structure is simple and is listed below. Only you, at this stage, know what you think you need. However, you might be surprised. What you think you need is often different after having the conversation.

I always do my utmost in every meeting to provide experienced, thoughtful responses drawn from my 40 years in practice. I am a great believer in getting the foundations in place quickly, which gives you confidence to build up your practice.

So the first step is (a) you decide which service you require. Tell me when you qualified (or how long your training has yet to go)

Make some notes, and other information you think relevant, such as areas you want to specialise in, or have a special interest in working. Make a note of your frustrations, what matters to you, and what you want to achieve in practice. In fact, anything that is important to you.  And send your information to me for our meeting.  (Note, we are adding an electronic form to this page shortly)

Session for 1 hour (£85),

Ideal for the first meeting, to ask a couple of questions, outline your plans and goals - all confidentially, of course, and if you are prepared to answer questions to get a deeper understanding of what's needed, the time will be well spent.

Session for 2 hours (£155)

More in-depth, diving straight in!

Session for 4 hours (£270),

Ideal for those looking to get the most out of the allotted time.

Session for 6.5 hours (£440).

No messing about with you! Go straight for it.

Sessions held via Zoom. Contact me using the contact form on this site to express an interest in these services

Free - Stress Audio Program 80 - Introduction Session

Stress Management Half-Day Presentation for NHS GP Staff (Since 2006)

Available from mid-March 2026 - Register your interest.

What better way to get you and your practice in front of GPs and their staff than by delivering a Stress management/ stress Awareness presentation to the practice? Caring for the carers!

Charge or give your time for free. Michael delivers this half-day Zoom presentation after years of delivering to GP practices. The half day is for you - the presentation to staff is approximately one hour, due to their time constraints. Everything you need is given to you. There is no better way (in Michael's opinion) to have one hour to present, make your name known and deliver practical, beneficial help to staff.

An often occurring side benefit is receiving staff as private clients, family members, or clients referred by word of mouth from receptionists.

Note: I have set aside 10 days in 2026 for the Stress Management for NHS GP staff.

More about Michael

I got my own office, and then set my sights on working with the medical profession. My work was accepted by a local medical centre, and eventually, I was working six days a week, with two offices in the GP medical centre. I was asked to work in a local hospital's Human Resources department, which outsourced my services to local government and corporate employees. In addition, I conducted research on IBS and, in 1998, launched the IBS Audio Program 100, the first home use Program of its kind for IBS, which has been used in over 45 countries.

In July 2011, I was invited to Queen Elizabeth's Garden Party at Buckingham Palace, in recognition of my Innovative Health Solutions. As far as I know, I am the only hypnotherapist who has received an invitation, solely based on my hypnotherapy practice and products. This isn't about braggadocio; it is an outline of my journey in practice (with many more milestones I could mention), from the lows of uncertainty to the high honours.

MarcM Therapy The Stress Specialist - Leamington Spa, Warwickshire UK.

Hi Mike

It has been just over a month since we finished the mentoring process. I have left it this long before writing as I wanted to make sure I have assimilated (the best I can) what I had learned during our time together.

The first thing that comes to mind is how essential the time we spent together has been on my development as a therapist, on my understanding of what it is I want to do and, on my motivation, to get on and do it.

Though I believe I chose one of the better hypnotherapy training courses, I am not convinced that the training was complete insomuch as, yes, I learned interventions and how to cross the T’s and dot the I’s when setting up a therapy practice, but not necessarily how to be a therapist (or maybe the therapist I want to be). The training didn’t touch on the responsibility of being a therapist. It didn’t ask the question, “why do you want to be a therapist?”, and then “How do you want to do it?”.

These are the questions you asked and I answered. The diploma training gave me the tools and how to use them, the mentoring with you directed my skills and desires on where best to use these tools with confidence.

I would, without hesitation, recommend to anyone either newly qualified or struggling with direction/confidence/motivation and who wants to take their responsibility as a therapist seriously, that they invest in your mentoring programme. The training we receive at college is only the beginning of the learning process. What you offer, Mike, is the knowledge of 33 years of practical experience and success.

Thank you for everything you have done for me and I hope our relationship is only just beginning.

All the very best Mike.

Marc
