Michael Mahoney for your wonderful audios.
They are truly life-changing. I ordered the IBS audio program for my daughter a couple of months ago. My daughter had constant almost unbearable abdominal pain for 18 months, as well as chronic diarrhea and chronic fatigue. She was living halfway around the world and I felt so helpless.
Allopathic doctors told her that it was all in her head - but she is a very optimistic, athletic, positive, cheerful person, so that made no sense at all. I listened to the audio before sending it to her, to make sure it was safe.
I knew right away that it would help. It is so beautifully created with such dedication to provide comfort, relaxation, peace, trust in yourself, being yourself and allowing the old subconscious beliefs that keep you trapped in this disease to fall away.
I have studied hypnotherapy myself, and worked with many audio-tapes, but have never seen anything like this before. On the third day of listening, my daughter phoned me to say that she was starting to feel like her old happy self again.
She has now almost completed the 100 day program, and we are both thrilled with the results. My daughter feels like she has a life purpose now - to help educate other people about IBS and to provide a living template that they can step into.
I liked the IBS program so much that I treated myself to the 60 day Insomnia program. I have suffered with insomnia most of my adult life. It got so bad that I could not really enjoy life any more.
I gave up making plans to do fun things, because I was pretty sure that I would have a poor night’s sleep and not be able to drive, or to have a good time. I shut myself off more and more from the outside world.
With the audios, the quality of my sleep improved greatly. I would sleep deeper and wake up rested, relaxed, and ready to greet the new day.
Instead of expecting poor sleep, I started expecting good, restorative, rejuvenating sleep. And then a wonderful thing happened. I no longer even needed to expect good sleep. It just happened naturally, all by itself. I now look forward to each day, to what adventures I will have, and how I can spread this joy to others.
I am so grateful for the time and research and dedication that you have put into these audios. What I love is how they take the “issue-ness” out of a seemingly horrible condition and turn it into a blessing; because of all we have learned about ourselves and our journey on this earth.

What is Hypnosis? Posted on 12 Feb 15:38 , 0 comments
Have you ever been totally absorbed
while reading a book, cooking or watching a film? Did you zone out to the point where you didn't notice what else was going on around you? If so, you've experienced a type of trance-like state or focused attention that's similar to what happens to you during hypnosis.
Hypnosis, when provided by an experienced practitioner, helps with a variety of health conditions. These range from helping to control pain to easing emotional distress after trauma.
Hypnosis, also referred to as hypnotherapy or hypnotic suggestion, is an altered state of consciousness. This state of consciousness is usually achieved with the help of a hypnotherapist and is different from your everyday awareness.
When you're in hypnosis:
Your attention is more focused, you are more responsive to suggestions, and more open and less critical or disbelieving. The purpose of hypnosis as a therapeutic technique is to help you gain more control over your behaviour, emotions or physical well-being.
There is much scientific research being undertaken to bring a clear understanding of how it works. Presently researchers suggest that it appears to affect how your brain communicates with your body through nerve impulses, hormones and body chemicals, such as neuropeptides. As a practitioner I know, for many subjects, hypnosis creates a state of deep relaxation and quiets the mind. When you're hypnotised you can concentrate intensely on a specific thought, memory, feeling or sensation while blocking out distractions. You're more open than usual to suggestions, and this can be used to change your behaviour and thereby improve your health and well-being.
Who is hypnosis for?
Hypnotherapy has the potential to help relieve the symptoms of a wide variety of diseases and conditions. It can be used independently or along with other treatments. For example, in the USA it’s one of several relaxation methods used for treating chronic pain and has been approved by an independent panel convened by the National Institutes of Health. According to preliminary studies, again in the USA, hypnotherapy may be used to change negative behaviours, such as smoking, bed-wetting and overeating, reduce fear, stress and anxiety, eliminate or decrease the intensity of phobias, treat pain during childbirth and reduce labour time, control pain during dental and surgical procedures, relieve symptoms associated with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), lower blood pressure, control nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy, reduce the intensity or frequency of headaches, including migraines, hasten the healing of some skin diseases, including warts, psoriasis and atopic dermatitis.
In the UK hypnosis
is recommended by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) to manage IBS symptoms. Hypnosis in the guidelines is classed as a psychological intervention, not complementary or alternative medicine. Hypnosis for IBS has many years of successful research behind it – see my IBS Audio Program 100 which has been helping IBS sufferers around the world since 1998.
Although hypnosis has the potential to help with a wide variety of conditions, it's not a magic effect.
For some conditions such as IBS it can be used as a stand alone treatment, for others it can be part of a broader, more comprehensive treatment plan.
Before any hypnotherapy sessions there is the initial consultation which is an information gathering process, as it helps build rapport and aids understanding between client and therapist. In my practice you are never asked to make a decision to proceed at the initial consultation; in my view it is important before any hypnotherapy sessions are taken that you take time to reflect on what has been discussed and feel comfortable with the therapist.
If you cannot get to my practice visit my site www.healthyaudiohypnosis.com for a rage of self-help audio programs for conditions such as IBS in Adults and Children, Anxiety, Confidence and Self-Esteem, Stress and many more.
In 1998 the IBS Audio Program 100
made its way into the lives of IBS sufferers. After eight years in development and patient piloting this program set the scene for home use IBS treatment. It is still the bench mark to this day.
A specifically developed IBS treatment for both the physical and emotional aspects of IBS, the IBS Audio Program 100 is structured using a unique listening protocol which maximises the listening experience and enhances outcomes.
In 2016 we are celebrating the 18th year of its success. The program is now used in 45+ countries, with thousands of users.
The program is hypnosis based. Hypnosis has a long and proven medical history of being effective in treating irritable bowel syndrome, when applied by a knowledgeable and experienced hypnotherapist.
The IBS Audio Program 100 was developed initially for IBS sufferers who were unable to attend the medical centre based practice of its developer, Michael Mahoney.
In those early days
the IBS Audio program 100 was the first to recognise the emotional impact of IBS on the sufferer. Elsewhere it is only in relatively recent years that the importance of the emotional aspects of IBS have been investigated and researched.
Another first for the IBS Audio Program 100 was in the inclusion of the IBS Companion, a free recording which takes away the embarrassment of explaining the IBS condition to friends, family, teachers, and co-workers.
Irritable Bowel Syndrome
is a common digestive condition affecting up to one in five of the population at some time in their lives. Presenting with any combination and varying severity and frequency of symptoms which can include but are not limited to diahorrea, constipation, pain, bloating, nausea, gas, cramps and much more.
Some of the many reasons for considering the IBS Audio Program 100 for your IBS are:
- Use in the safety and comfort of your own home. No travel, appointments, traffic or embarrassment.
- Cost effective: SAVE £, $, €, ¥ ! Comparable to less than one session of private IBS therapy.
- Our IBS Audio Program 100 can be used alongside other IBS treatment methods, or used stand alone, and is often used when all other treatment options have been exhausted.
Available in CD Set, or immediate MP3 download.

Also for children between the ages of 8 – 13 years is the IBS Audio Program 60.
It is becoming more widely recognized
that there is a connection between our thoughts and feelings and how they affect us physically, and ultimately determine the state of our health. There is a lot of media attention on the foods we eat and how our environment can affect us. Issues such as obesity, stress, depression, anxiety and chronic health problems are regularly highlighted on the radio and TV. Therefore, we have no excuses not to address our own environmental concerns, i.e. what we do and how we live affects our mental and physical health. However, if it was so easy, we would all be doing it. So what stops us changing the things that affect our health?
We are very complicated beings and are influenced by our environment on many levels, externally and internally. The external factors may be more easily fixed, however, that depends on circumstances and the internal factors, i.e. your irrational mind.
You may be aware that the mind and body are connected by the Central Nervous System from the Enteric Nervous System in the Gut (called the second brain) to the brain in your head. Think about the statement ‘I know it in my gut’, then you may get some understanding how communication travels between our two separate brains. Are you confused yet? Maybe part of you understands this, and if that is so it is most likely your gut feeling, rather than your head.
How does our environment affect this communication between gut and head? What you may find most surprising, it is mostly your internal environment, i.e. your own thoughts and belief system, which has been further influenced by your own DNA. This will have been externally influenced by our ancestors, and the environmental factors that were around in past generations as well as our own.
Do you often feel that life is moving too fast, and you can’t keep up, are you still being influenced by your parents and grandparents’ beliefs and actions whilst attempting to move with the changes around you? An example, in point, technology – can you keep up with it?
All the factors discussed here influence our coping mechanisms and ultimately our levels of stress, resulting in health concerns. If our ‘gut feeling’ doesn’t match up with what our head says, then chaos erupts. Our internal beliefs, attitudes and responses are triggered and usually we revert to the norm. This can result in inappropriate or child-like coping skills leaving us feeling helpless and out of control.
The good news is that change is always possible. Education is well documented as a way of creating positive change in people. If we learn new things about ourselves as well as about our environment, that new awareness opens doors for us. Reading this article may have already started the process for you, and started you on a journey into finding out more about the mind-body connection and how it affects you and your health.
There are also many ways that you can learn to listen to your body and to recognize the signs it gives you about what needs to change to improve your health.
All my self-hypnosis well-being audio programs use the mind-body connection to bring improvement in mind, body and emotion www.healthyaudiohypnosis.com
Do you know what
the future has in store for you? Even in spite of the doom and gloom reported in the news, there is one thing we can be sure of, and that is we have more authority and control over our lives than most of us think.
Take for example, the very moment you are living in right now, as you read this article. What brought you to read this? Whether you are consciously aware of them or not, there are reasons and events that brought you to this action – simple as it may be.
But what about the big picture – your future? Is it hopeless or hopeful? It can be hopeful and you hold the key!
How about thinking of your future in a new way.
Imagine that you are on a path
and around you there are many other paths, each one setting you in a different direction, with each path dependent upon the next thought and decision you make. There are many options of choice, but you are in control of the choice you make. With this choice, you will begin a series of steps and actions which will lead to outcomes and responses. Some may well be responses you do not want, but we learn from these decision-making processes and eventually most of us learn the lessons they teach us, both negative and positive, so we learn about our authority and outcomes and responsibilities.
Now what difference would it make if you actively sought your goal and if you planned and structured your thinking, to take the steps you need to take, to achieve your goals in a way that was determined by your thoughts and actions? There would be more focus in your life, less hardship and disappointment, more rewards and quicker resolutions to unwanted outcomes.
So imagine you are the hub in a wheel, and all the paths leading from you are the spokes, each leading to alternative outcomes. You, in this moment, in this very time, have the ability to sculpt your future, determine your future to be the very best you possibly can.
It is not down to simply
waiting and see what comes your way, it is not dependent on what others do or do not do. If we want something enough, we put plans in place to achieve them, we can learn from others who can already do what we want to do, we decide to use our own authority and life skills and education to reach out and achieve what we want to achieve, whether it is in the workplace, in relationships or otherwise.
So I would encourage you to seek your own path of achievement, through your own actions, thoughts and beliefs. It’s easy to accept the alternative, which is to do nothing, and blame the state or someone else. But I truly believe, if we want something enough we can go out and get it, despite the objections and doubts and disbelief of others. We can make our own future, even our own luck, if we use our own resources wisely. But it all starts with that single step, that thoughtful belief that we want something to change. And of course, if I can help you know where I am.

Looking forward Posted on 15 Jan 17:13 , 0 comments
As we start another year
we can look forward to the lighter nights, the warmer days and all the opportunities this year will bring us. Looking back on 2015 I think many readers will simply be pleased it is behind us and we can start anew.
This year I am looking forward to a few new projects which I hope will come to fruition as the year progresses. I am going to make it a year I can look back on with a sense of achievement. There are many things I want to do, things I want to learn and teach, people I want to meet and learn from, and I am going to try my hardest to achieve them all.
Looking forward positively is healthy and if we really want to do or achieve something, having it in our minds eye, making it real, enjoying the feelings of how it will make us feel once we have achieved our goal helps us to keep focused and to really achieve it. I am not encouraging readers however to act illogically or recklessly. We have to keep a sense of reality, without limiting our drive to achieve.
Convincing ourselves we can do
or achieve something, just because we say so is not conducive to a life of fulfillment. Some people develop a mantra of positivity that they can and will achieve x,y or z without having the most basic level of competency to be successful. Doing so in my view is a recipe for disaster.
It’s like giving the keys to a high powered car to a non-driver; it’s an accident waiting to happen.
Planning, structuring and learning are positive ways to achieve those things you want to achieve. People often ask why I kept going when things were stacked against me, when I was developing the IBS Audio Program 100.
To explain the scenario, when I first started to develop this program in the early 1990s, I was told by several people and organisations it wasn’t possible to develop something which could help the IBS condition as I was proposing to do. But I learned, I structured my approach, I recognised my weaknesses and dealt with them, I had rejection after rejection in response to requests for assistance.
But I kept in mind how I would feel once I had brought it to market and – sure enough - in 1998 it was released. Now users in over 45 countries benefit from it. The NHS Nice guidelines in 2008 advises hypnosis is a valid treatment option after 12 months of non-effective pharmacological treatment.
What a journey!
The drive and determination paid off, and many people are living better and happier lives because of it, and so are their families. And that is the feeling I felt in the early nineties, how it would feel when it was completed. And now I know, and it’s even better than I imagined.
So at the start of this new year, look forward positively, difficulties will pass, focus on your goals, decide what you are going to achieve this year, and do it.

On one of my morning walks
a few years ago, the sky was overcast, the wind had a chill, and a few drops of rain were warning of the deluge shortly to come. Approaching me, was a young woman of perhaps 18 to 20 years of age and suddenly she gave me a wonderful smile. It was such a delight and a wonderful change from the usual people who I pass who don’t even look up. As a student of human observation, that smile said several things; it conveyed a message of happiness, friendliness, and a confidence that is rarely seen these days.
It brightened my day, how nice to have received that smile; I hope the one I returned was as equally well received. And it made me think that a smile costs nothing to give, but can be worth a fortune. I remember W.C Fields the comedian and actor once said “Start everyday with a smile and get it over with.” I like to think that was the comedian in him, as I side more with the sentiments of Phyllis Diller the American comedienne who said, “A smile is a curve which sets everything straight.”
That one smile given by a total stranger made a big impact. But sadly it is rare these days to receive an honest smile. A true smile is seen also in the eyes, and yet they are in danger of becoming extinct. These days it seems to be seen by many as a sign of weakness.
Don’t show a weakness, don’t raise your head and give eye contact as you walk past, don’t acknowledge your fellow human beings because then you’re leaving yourself open, exposed and vulnerable ~ you might have to communicate! And then I considered the fact that perhaps many had forgotten how to smile, or was it true that it may be seen as a sign of weakness? But I believe the giving of a genuine smile, no matter how difficult life is, or how worried we are can give us strength. It can show the outside world we are approachable - a scowl doesn’t.
And from that outward sign, from that simple smile we may receive it back, we may be offered help, we may begin conversation, we may have opportunity to help others and more - all from that one simple, easy free act of giving.
But is it true that we can be seen as vulnerable or submissive if we smile and are friendly? I think not. In fact the opposite may be true. If we show we are secure in ourselves, that we have the confidence and self belief and self esteem to openly show our genuine self, then we have learned to be stronger than the many around us who don’t share a smile, but would rather ignore others or wear a frown to protect them from the fear of interacting.
The simple act of smiling can say a lot about us, how we feel and the confidence we have. Those who know me would, I hope, agree I wear a smile more often than a frown, but perhaps the cynic would add, it’s because I have no idea of what’s going on!

Just an idea!!
The IBS Audio Program 100...
for those who are not familiar with it, is a home use self-help audio program for the common gastrointestinal condition Irritable Bowel Syndrome or IBS for short.
So what makes it so special?
It’s down to a combination of factors. It was developed independently, taking eight years of painstaking research and development before it was brought to market. The program addresses both physical and emotional aspects of IBS, and is now the leading one of its kind.
The man behind the IBS Audio Program 100 is Michael Mahoney, who began developing the idea in 1991. “I saw three women in the same week needing help with their IBS symptoms,” says Michael, “and, although I only knew a little about the condition at that time, it was clear that I needed to do something to help”.
His decision was wide reaching. He re-mortgaged his family home to find the research, only to encounter opposition from drug companies and over-the counter drug manufacturers who turned down his requests for additional funding.
“I went through some really tough times,” recalls Michael. “Many of my peers scoffed at the idea, as did some in the medical profession, but I kept going.”
As the R&D phase ended, Michael approached a leading UK PR company, who rejected the program as ‘unmarketable’, returning the package unopened.
Yet, now, the IBS program is now used in 48 countries.
So what kept Michael going? “It was a combination of things,” he says. “There was the look of despair and hope on the faces of my IBS patients, who desperately needed something that would help them. Then there was the great feedback I got from my patients as I piloted the program. And then of course…” He pauses and starts to laugh, “…there was the fact that so many people were telling me to give it up, which had exactly the opposite effect!”
During his research, Michael contacted hundreds of IBS sufferers and began to develop specific hypnotherapy processes, along with the listening structure OPSIM or Ongoing progressive session induction method, which proved so effective that he developed it further for his other programs treating anxiety, stress, confidence and insomnia, among others.
“IBS patients don’t have the option of giving up,” says Michael. “They have to carry on, so I knew I had to also. Once I started there was no option to stop”.
The long and winding journey, encompassing three years of patient piloting, finally led to its successful launch in 1998. The program was eagerly embraced by IBS sufferers not only in the UK but in other countries.
“We had such a positive reaction from people”, says Michael. “The president of the IBSgroup.org had the foresight to support the program from the start and still does to this day.”
Now the program is accepted as a proven treatment option by many in the medical profession, both in the UK and worldwide, Mahoney is seen as a leading light in the field of IBS / hypnosis and the most important thing is program users are feeling the benefits. Over the years, thousands of unsolicited testimonials have been received from grateful users. The program has been used in support groups, a university and for patients in a leading digestive hospital.
So that’s a very quick overview of how the came into being. So how does Michael feel about it all now?
“I’m pleased I took the risk,” he smiles, “pleased I ignored the doubters, and pleased that my work has helped so many around the world.”
Many years ago in strange and unfamiliar territory...
I took a chance and mentioned my IBS Audio Program 100 on the ibsgroup.org bulletin board.
It was strange because up to that time (way back in 1998) I had never spoken about my work, preferring to just get on with the task of helping people to get better from the rooms of my medical centre based practice.
When I was brave enough I ventured out of my rooms having spent 8 years researching and developing my IBS Audio Program 100 for adults. Eight years of smirks and putdowns from peers and rejection from other individuals and organisations I would not have expected if from.
Many seemed to simply try to talk me out of my set aim of producing a self-help home use program for irritable bowel syndrome sufferers, an aim they said was not possible, or worthwhile!
The unfamiliar bit...
came when I joined the IBS Group.org the President, Jeff was very forward thinking and saw the value of my work to the group membership. Thank you Jeff!
I met people who understood what I had done, and why. People who applauded the journey I embarked upon. Some came along with me for the ride, as I developed other programs for insomnia, anxiety, stress and others too.
So, as I periodically do, I am offering a special 15% discount to IBSgroup.org members off any of my self-help audio programs, including of course the IBS Audio Program 100 for adults and the IBS Audio Program 60 for Children.
To claim the group discount (which is over and above existing discounts) simply enter

To all ibsgroup.org members I wish you well on your journey.
